As an Irish Wolfhound owner and fancier that is one of the most beautiful I have ever seen! I love the mass on him.

Beautiful Wolfhound. Size, mass and quality. Unlike some in America that look more like Deerhounds.
@qweqwe13242 жыл бұрын
This is a perfectly manicured/groomed wolfhound... Every wolfhound that's dirty looks closer to a deerhound. When Willem (my male IW) gets wet or doesn't get groomed, he looks much "skinnier" or "Deerhoundish" in comparison. We have 180lb wolfhounds in America, doubt that's breed standard in EU (kzbin.info/www/bejne/bIaXfmewiM2XmpY -Tidus is the example)

Jordan Watts sadly everyone wants expensive odd crosses and lots of native breeds are becoming less popular. We are doing our best to get the word out. X

+Mutley The Glen I'd love to have a Manchester terrier, bloodhound, or Irish wolfhound. I don't like things like "yorkiepoos"

Most aren't popular because their line of work is gone and they don't make the best pets. Otterhounds are terribly inbred and have a smaller population than pandas, and barely anyone has brought in necessary new blood from other breeds. The short terriers have been beat out by the more diverse and manageable Jack Russell Terrier and Border Terrier. People looking for big dogs usually opt for the Great Dane instead, since it has better genetic diversity. The other setters are trumped by the Irish Setter. The English Cocker Spaniel and the English Springer Spaniel is much more popular than most other spaniels, and the Clumber Spaniel’s high hip dysplasia rate doesn't help. The King Charles Spaniel isn't favored as much as the Cavalier King Charles Spaniel, and has just as many health problems. The Curly-Coated Retriever isn't seen any better than a Lab, Golden, or Flat-Coat. Most of these breeds are unpopular for a reason.

I've owned two hounds a Walker and a Bluetick, their personalities are huge and their loyalty amazing. If you like walks in the mountains and are willing to work with them you will have the added "bay" to make your day enjoyable. The Walker was harder to control and we would only see him morning and night regardless of what we tried however the Bluetick never went more than a few yards ahead and always waited. Be prepared as hounds take a special kind of patience.

What a shame these gorgeous breeds are at risk. I'm in the US and they are all rare breeds here. Most people outside of dog fanciers have no idea these breeds exist. People go for the same top 10 breeds all the time. Also there is such a push for rescue and in rescue you see the same dog types over and over, bully breed/lab/hound mixes. As much as I support rescue the fact is this: we need to get dogs from somewhere. They are either going to come from a good responsible breeder or from the irresponsible person who didn't spay or neuter their dog. We should be supporting responsible breeders who breed for health and temperament. And we should be demanding that backyard breeders and people producing accidental litters be shut down. But in America it's the opposite. There is a push to shun breeders and keep going to rescues for dogs. So there is no incentive for people to stop producing dogs that end up in rescue. They know someone is going to adopt them.

Interesting post, I've owned all pound dogs or strays and loved each. I got lucky with a purebred Walker Hound growing up from the pound, a Bluetick which was a stray, they both blessed our lives for 12 & 14 years, a Blueheeler for 18 years, pound and recently a Doberman, an Amazing family/Watchdog. I've nothing against pure breeds dogs however today are often little more than companionship, I also understand the importance of a quality bred dog. However some of this is a result of pushback against hunting so your retrievers stand to be eliminated. The Bloodhound does surprise me however being arguably the king of hounds and so needed. But even I an avid big game hunter have trouble with hunting with hounds. there is a bill on the table to allow Bears to be hound hunted in Montana I would need some convincing to support. I am ok with hound hunting for lions which is very popular in Montana and truly needed. Nevertheless with lower pay how can the common person possibly afford a 1500+ dog? They cannot and should not. Moreover with public land access dwindling there will be even less demand for hunting breeds. The Green New Deal makes sense for the Breeding industry apparently.

Yes two jobs and not enough time for activities is a real problem. The time is impacting the PGA as well since people no longer have time for 18 holes. Mind you that is better for the environment but worse for mental health

This group makes no sense to me to breed judge... why don’t they just show them and not compete ? Senseless... there should be no competetions... it’s just putting up favorites not helping any of them... endangered not vulnerable is better I believe....
