It probably didn't drive as good because once the valve body starts to go bad by the the time you remove the valve body the clutches clearance have increased from the excessive slippage caused by valve body failure so if you are going this far to rebuild the valve by you better off putting new clutches and check the clearance there should be no more than 0.08mm clearance in the resting position by the way you can check how worn it when you remove the valve body on VW ,you'll expose part of the clutches you can measure there

The 09G valvebody is known for internal bore wear causing shift issues when warm. Looks like this video addresses solenoids and separator plates and won't do much if anything for that.

Are there any codes that would indicate it was the valve body? My code was the output speed sensor then various other tranny codes. I changed the sensor, fluid, filter and still won't go out of first gear? I would do the valve body if I knew it was defective and it would fix my problem.

The best way to get all the gasket material off the valve body plates and to clean the parts really good is to soak them in carburetor cleaner overnight. That’s what my college instructor did. Also, I would use an inch pound torque wrench on everything. I wouldn’t use a foot pound torque wrench on any bolt on a valve body

Right on both counts. The only exceptions is some of these newer plates with the newer material come arent even effected by the carb cleaner. Very frustrating. There's a plate like that in the 4L65-E now too. Fortunately they include a new plate in the overhaul kit for that one nowadays.

The 09D is very different but the Solenoids are not so different.

Great question. It fixes the same systems/problems without you having to spend near as much money. However you will have to do all this extra work and just one mistake could ruin something. So personal choice. More work less $$ vs More $$ less work.

I have an 08 mini and wouldnt shift really at all when i got it. Replaced the valve body with "rebuilt/sonnax updated vb" and it shifts fine cold but occasionally when hot it will slam into first when coming to a stop or say turning onto another road. Now it really only does this when you are going up a slight grade and give some throttle input. Any ideas? Did i get a bad valve body? Something i can fix? Or something else.

Yes I would contact your vender. Sonnax is a really good company and will probably give you another valve body. If the problem persists after the second valve body is installed then you know its coming from something other than valve body.

My gf bought an 08 Mini and the previous owner said the mechanic told him the valve body is bad bc it didn't shift from 3rd to 4th without letting off the gas first. My question is, how is that a valve body problem and not just a solenoid? If it is the VB, does rebuilding like this fix it? Thanks.

20 foot pounds is a lot of torque for valve body bolts; manual states torquing to 80 inch pounds which amounts to less than 7 ft lbs .
