I have a 2005 VW Beetle with the 09G. It does not have a cooler/heat exchanger on top of the trans. Also I don't see any coolant lines running to or from the trans. How does the fluid get cooled?

Hey thanks for putting the video together. If you could illustrate grinding of the ends I think that would help. Also can you describe the symptoms that this repair helps fix? And are there other transmission units that you fixed with a similar kit that you would recommend doing the same thing on?
@saneauto6 жыл бұрын
Way too many symptoms to list. If it's been driven with these problems too long the clutches could already be burnt. If you suspect that, then watch my other videos on removing, disassemble video, reassemble video etc. Its all hear on my channel. Most other units the solenoids are affordable to purchase so just buy them and replace during the build. I also have a video on doing the valve body.

My replacement solenoids all have black connectors - no yellow, so how can I tell which ones should replace the yellow ones? They all appear identical from the outside. The numbers on the casting and caps didn't give me any clues. I put them in as best I could figure they went but my shift problem persists. Any suggestions??? Thank you!
@strawmanmark67352 жыл бұрын
I cleaned my old ones and checked resistance. They all checked out at 6.5 ohms and the valves all move so I know none are sticking now. Should I just return these to their original locations and try again, or is it time to try something else. The problem is the shifts from 4 5 and 6 gears. 1 to 3 work fine. I bought the car like this and suspect the previous owner might have driven it like this for a while.

I've read that you have to reset the TCM/adaptation after doing any tranny work, is that true? Is there a way to do it without the VAG-COM tool? I have an '06 Jetta 2.5 with the O9G automatic 6-speed. I'm replacing the shift solenoids and was wondering if what I read online is true for that car.
@saneauto5 жыл бұрын
Its having the battery disconnected that sometimes causes the TCM to revert back to factory settings. You also lose all your radio presets and trip data etc. You can use this to keep the memory alive while working on the car with the battery disconnected or the ground wire disconnected. Its a very affordable tool -- amzn.to/317kP0l

@@saneauto for future reference, in a T5 transporter, and most likely most other cars with this auto, you: 1. Turn ignition to ON (do not start engine) 2. Press the gas pedal to the floor till it clicks 3. Hold the pedal for 15 seconds 4. Release pedal gently 5. Turn Key to Off 6. Start engine and drive as normal by resetting the TCM, it will re-adapt to your driving style. I do this often when box has learnt bad habits from another driver etc, it is always learning apparently. Don't be gentle on it during the first drive if you want a responsive box!

Glad to hear your trying to be careful. Try practicing on some old pieces of plumbing pipe. or buy a length of PVC cut it into 4-inch pieces and practice on 10 or 12 of them. Watch the vid closely. There are only two prongs on each solenoid. I touch one prong to the positive lead on the meter the other lead to the solenoid case to check for a shorted solenoid. then test the other solenoid pin. then one lead to each solenoid prong to check for an 'open' in the solenoid coil. I will make a separate video on this soon because the procedure is the same for all makes and models. Thank you for the video Idea.

Hi Vic ...QUESTION: my Reverse gear is Slamming into place. I SPOKE with a Mechanic who says 'Solenoids have nothing to do with Reverse?' *TRUE OR FALSE* ???
@saneauto2 жыл бұрын
They didnt use too. Reverse was fed directly from the manual valve and presure was increased by a boost valve with a spring. Now these later models the fluid pressure is solenoid controlled so no longer true. This could help -- amzn.to/3hSKbte
@jjsiegal12 жыл бұрын
@@saneauto I believe that Mechanic is wrong. I'm NOW told the TCM will command 4 linear solenoids to activate (N92-ON, N93-MODULATE, N282-ON and N283-ON). This will enable K3 clutch and B2 brake. So Yes, Solenoids control Reverse as well. **THANKS VIC**

@saneauto4 жыл бұрын
Im assuming you had reverse before. Try adding an extra 1/2 quart first before trying anything else. Because a little overfull wont cause any symptoms but a little underfill will. If you still have no reverse suspect and double check everything you touched.

Hi. I have a 07 VW with the 09g. Box seems to shift normal in R 1 2 3, but trying for 4 5 and 6 it seems to hunt for these gears, the car slightly jolts and revs drop to as if it finds the gear, but seems to have no drive, possibly slipping. The box will stay in 4 or 5 or 6 for a while and then down shift repeatedly until 3rd where there is drive. This started with 3-4 flares and got progressively worse over a few hundred miles. Car had a full oil and filter change with valve body removed and solenoids cleaned. That seemed to somehow sort the issues but less than 200 miles it was back. Any ideas what next? Could it be bore wear and need a new VB? Cheers
@saneauto3 жыл бұрын
Yes it could be valve bore wear. At this point its more likely already has clutch damage. If it were mine I would pull it, do a complete rebuild, with a replacement valve body and the solenoid & VB upgrade kit I use -- amzn.to/3IQTVkh

*FIXED* Finally all I did was change the transmission fluid and it worked!!... I bought 6 bottles of transmission fluid on Blauparts. www.blauparts.com/vw-atf-transmission-fluid-g-052-025-a2-aisin-1l.html At first I changed only 500ml and then drove 300km, before doing another 500ml change and drive another 300km. (After 600km total, I already saw the big improvement on shifting) so finally I changed about 3L and changed the transmission filter as well. And it worked like a charm!.. I've been riding for the past 4 months with it, it drives almost as good as new as long as I don't drive for too long.. after 1h of driving I can hear it shift louder. But nothing too crazy as it used to be. So I'm really satisfied. I'm very glad with my results.

When twisting with the drill bit to resize bushings, are you apply any amount of pressure up into the solenoid? And one more thing, is this the repair for the hard shifting problem that is common when trans is warm?
@saneauto5 жыл бұрын
No pressure. And yes that is one of the problems it fixes. Make sure you use that expensive blue fluid too or the Aisin T-IV because without it you can also get hard shifting and slipping during the shift AKA slide bump. The 09G is manufactured by Aisin Warner so the VW fluid is re-badged Aisin Fluid in a different bottle with a higher price. amzn.to/2ZAgnu3
