Hey mate, when you have the transmission open like this and you spin the differential (final drive) what sort of cleaner should you have between the gear and the case. Because I’ve changed a worn out bearing on the case side and reinstalled the factory shim but the gear when you spin it in the open case now grinds the case a little. More play in the new bearing and I have to put more shims in?

Do you have a link for the speed sensor replacements. Mine currently work but am about to tackle my first transmission rebuild. Usually I just swap a junkyard replacement but with most 09gs having the same issues my choice is to rebuild.

Where did you get the new pistons and “steels”

@@saneauto thanks! Yea the link in the video description doesn’t have the pistons or steels. I bought it and it doesn’t have them. This one that you just sent does have them tho.

I have this same transaxle in my 13 Mini Countryman. Made the dumb mistake of hammering the end cap into the differential trying to knock an axle out. Do those differential caps come in a standard rebuild kit? I’m assuming if I yank the cap out it will leak fluid out through the axle if it’s not replaced. Rebuilt an aisin transmission in a 4runner before. Lot of the clutch packs look similar.

Thank you for commenting. If your talking about the axle seals then yes they come in the kit. You are also right about many of the clutch disks looking very similar.

1st - Thanks for great videos! Rebuilding 2005 Mini Cooper S auto right now...installing new pistons, frictions, steels, and typical rebuild kit stuff. Any tips for reinstalling B2 Clutch Apply Piston Return Spring Assembly? Having trouble getting retain snap ring in place while compressing return spring. Yours is second video watched that skips over how got spring back into place - any guidance much appreciated!

Please tell me you soaked those friction plates in atf for 30 min before you installed them. Dry friction plates are death.

Some people can ride a bicycle the first time. I had to wreck mine a few times and get stitches. I also messed up 6 or 7 engines before I successfully build my first one but I was 12 years old at the time. So I think you just gotta get in there and mess up a few times and maybe get it right. If you fail miserably buy another trans and install it. At least you learned something. You will learn and get better and you will still probably spend lass than the average $3500 or so you would have to pay to get this rebuilt by someone else who may or may not do it right either. Be prepared though you will be Burned bruised or bleeding maybe all three.

Thank you so much for your videos! I've been studying them for months as I work on this transmission. I'm looking everywhere for the right rebuild kit but I cant seem to find one that has everything in one package. Your link to amazon doesn't work anymore. I remember when it did but I didn't have the transmission apart to know what pieces were bad. As of now I have it tore apart in my office but I'm not finding much for the loss of 4th 5th and 6th. I've researched alot and heard about the k2 clutch ring issue may be the cause but what does it look like when it spins on the shaft. From what I'm seeing on mine it looks like its lined up correctly. I was hoping that was the cause of my slow loss of 4th 5th and 6th. Any help is appreciated as you have helped me so much so far with your amazing videos!! Thank you again.

I'm working on the mini cooper version, the tf-60sn / GA6F21WA. I found that there are gaskets that are missing, and the 2 piece case was siliconed together. Also the pump casing only had a few o rings and no gasket either. I thought this was odd as everywhere else I see these vw variants having gaskets. Any thoughts on that? Will this kit you shared work for the mini cooper version. There's only a few differences that in seeing so far, like missing one temp sensor on the valve body and the gaskets. I also had the valve body rebuilt and upgraded (sent it to get serviced). The rebuild didn't solve my problem that's why I pulled the whole transmission out for the rebuild.
