VW 1989 Transporter Autohome UK Komet campervan

I watched this Thurday evening sitting in our campervan on a campsite in the west coast of Scootland, the following afternoon a Ci Komet arrives on site !! Andy you mention a Bluebird Wayfarer on a Ford Thames, I would be interested if you would add picture, layout etc, as I don't recall seeing a Wayfarer on a Thames, I remember the Ci Sprite Wayfarer on the Mk 1 Ford Transit from 1967/8 through to the late 1970s. As a youngsters I was always fond of the Ford Thames campervans, or caravanettes as they were known. I remember the Thames conversions, Dormobile, Cathorpe? Kentex and Airborne, but not a Bluebird Wayfarer. I do remember seeing pictures in a magazine back in the day of a prototype Sprite conversion on a Thames, but don't think it ever went into production.

Sprites motorhomes had just a few years run on Transit Custom - think I may have said that wrong a Wayfarer was based on the Commer in 1964 Philip but I am sure I saw the Wyafarer on a Thames - possibly the Commer was more popular it being larger - many convertors switched to the Commer - but how weird A Autohomes Komet - Fionas was a cracker - really liked it - thanks for your memories Philip

It was Julie and Fiona was great at everything from a great lunch to putting the Komet where I wanted it and just a fab afternoon" - got lots on just want some rewards money wise!

It's lovely to see an old van in such good condition. How many gears did this have? My first car had 4 forward gears plus reverse. Maybe this is the same. Great review Andy

Hi Andy, you certainly came up with something different this time. Really enjoyed seeing the VW Komet out and about. Some lovely video footage too, I like the blue interior paint and the curtains. It adds a little bit of quirkyness to it. Lovely little van for day trips or the odd weekend trip. Well done on making the video despite the rain.

Hi Kevin, we took the camper (Cosmo) just 7 miles to Green Farm at Shap over the weekend to test out a new to us, pre loved Glawning awning with a wood burning stove. It was fabulous! So different than being in a nylon awning. We are hoping to do some autumn and even winter trips using this, it even has a middle pole chandelier!

Hi, My 89 Komet has a 1.6 turbo diesel 70hp, much more economical than petrol but not as smooth as the petrol...

The 1.9 petro; was quite refined in fact the vehicle drove and rode well good to hear of another Komet-thank you for commenting
