@EXOVCDS28 күн бұрын
The service info I found does not show a vacuum reservoir. So I guess that the AHF engine does not need it. Service info only shows 2 vacuum consumers... the brake booster and the EGR vacuum diaphragm. It looks like the turbo has a wastegate (boost pressure opens the wastegate) and is not a VNT turbo (variable nozzle) that is vacuum controlled.

No... it should not cause stalling. It will cause longer "cranking time". You can disconnect the sensor and the engine should still start. Disconnect it and see if things (starting issue) change. Is the fuel pump in the fuel tank working? Year, make, model, engine (PD TDI)?

@EXOVCDS Жыл бұрын
Depends on where you are. North America stopped getting PD TDI''s in 2007 (I think). After that they are all 2.0L common rail TDI's. Completely different engines. Why don't you tell me what make, model vehicle you have... the problem you are having and the engine production code (if you know it). The production code is a 3 to 4 digit code that can be found on the timing belt / chain cover or on the valve cover (depending on the type of engine). Post a video of your engine on your channel... if you can't find the code, so that I can see which engine it is.

nice video, i have a seat altea 1.9tdi that takes longer to start when hot do you think this cam sensor could be the cause?
@johaneckerdal39264 жыл бұрын
Hello Thomas, nice video! My 2013 VW Passat 2.0 Tdi dies 1-2 seconds after start, only when warm and not always, and after 1-4 tries, it starts ok and run smooth. Would you suspect this sensor for the issue I have? I have shifted the crank shaft sensor already, still have the problem. Now I am thinking of the cam shaft sensor. I have vcds, and no fault code what so ever. Can you give an advice how to proceed? Many thanks.
@EXOVCDS4 жыл бұрын
I'm not sure.... if you don't try to start the engine after it is warm and try to start it once it is cold, it starts and stays running? I'd use VCDS to look at all the different sensor data to see if you can spot anything that looks strange, like wrong temperature (coolant or fuel), fuel pressure specified vs actual etc. Camshaft or crankshaft sensors on this engine will / should usually set a fault code when the ECM does not see a correct signal / mismatched. Sometimes its easier to find a problem after it gets worse (looooong cranking time or complete no-start).
@johaneckerdal39264 жыл бұрын
@@EXOVCDS Thanks Thomas for advice, thats very kind of you. Yes, when cold, never fails to start. When warm, only intermittently, and after few tries stays running. I will check these sensor data. Cranking time has never been long so far, starts but dies again. So will also wait until always dies after 1-2 seconds if sensor data does not show any obivuous deviation from normal.
@johaneckerdal39264 жыл бұрын

Hi Everyone, just a bit of info: I have a 2008 1.9tdi Leon. Looks like the same engine and sensor. My car is always slow to start when the engine is warm. Starts on the first turn when it is cold. Then once last winter after a 2.5hour drive in cold & snow it refused to start again at all. I had to wait about 15 minutes before it would start. A mechanic told me this is due to the camshaft position sensor, apparently there is a problem with a lot of them; they start to fail when they heat up with the engine. He confirmed this with diagnostics, he could read the sensor fine until the engine heated up. I thought it was a difficult job to replace, but I'll definitely have a go now that I've seen this. Thanks! (I'll update when I change the sensor)
@EXOVCDS6 жыл бұрын
The engine should run with the sensor disconnected... if it does not, then the camshaft position sensor is not the problem. The crankshaft position sensor however could be.
@johnkearns20866 жыл бұрын
I wonder do I have two problems then? The camshaft sensor causing the slow start, and a separate issue that caused it to not start that one time? I'll look into it a bit more on vcds maybe. Either way the camshaft sensor was confirmed as faulty so I'll do a bit of investigation to see if it's the sensor or maybe just wire damage somewhere. Either way, thanks for the video, and the advice, it's a great help. Keep it up 👍

***** Hi, sorry... I thought it was a TDI because you posted under a TDI video. Hard starting & rough running can be a sign of incorrect camshaft & crankshaft timing. I'm not familiar with the 1.6 FSI engine, but I can look up information if need be. If the engine has a timing chain, the chain could have jumped or has too much slack. Engine won't run with disconnected still already tried. Yes timing was checked with correct tools and can pulley bolts are roughly centralised. Reason for rebuild is threw a rod on number 2 I believe. It's the bxe engine code if I remember rightly.

+andrew page It's frustrating when you know that the engine ran before... in those cases I usually say that it will have to be something that was related to the work that was done. Knowing now that you know what you are doing (in most cases when someone asks me a question, they don't know left from right), it's a matter of elimination... definitely a fuel problem / control, if it runs on a separate fuel source.

With this sensor malfunctioning, the car still starts but it will take a couple of seconds more to start. And that is because the ECU doesn't have the information of camshaft position so it can fire the right injector, and are going to rely only on the crankshaft sensor to start.

Hello Thomas and thanks for your video!!! I am in the UK, gf has a Seat Altea 2008 BKD engine. I'm no mechanic, but seen this sensor for around £40. She's been quoted £650! To remove cam belt and install new cambelt sensor plus camshaft sensor. Now we can't afford this right now. My concern is can I just replace it, or does it have other links to car firmware? The following I saw in a different video, precisely for the same car model: "car won't run without it..... and it's not possible to fix it yourself because this sensor is part of SOC having RAM, ROM, CPU, and it looks like it needs engine model specific firmware..to communicate with engine ECU."
