VW Beetle Dash Pad Replacement Episode 4

In this episode, I start from where I finished. It was a long trying process as I discover that I should have perhaps sent this back and exchanged it for another one. I was far too late for that though. My frustration shows through a bit but........I get close. I'll look into the glove box at a later time again. Getting closer to finishing this though!

Yes ... I believe heat ... would have made a huge difference. The dash may have been stored standing-up for a long-ish time, compressing the foam. And pre-heating a foam and vinyl dash-pad could become very, very pliable. Possibly too soft ! At this point... we feel your anguish. An excellent video, and head's-up ! Enjoyed the captions too.

Very difficult that sellers are sending out crap - the VW name was primarily made through Quality, so any concern hiding behind there good name should be outed and shamed. I just feel so sorry for you man, working so dam hard and not getting the perfection deserved!

Thanks man. Yeah, I was disappointed for sure. It didn't go as smoothly as I'd hoped especially after I'd saved and purchased the most expensive pad I could get to avoid all of those types of issues. Oh well. Test fit before you start. Learn from me I guess. In saying that, I did manage to tune that corner a bit more so the glove box does fit better. Still not 100% perfect but lets say 80. It does look 100% though. Still super happy about it.

@@surlycrosscheck1 My 71 has new boring black steering wheel yet simple original metal dash. Your steering wheel is the best looking one there is but now you have the black dash! Beetles hey, not two the same!

How did u get the center vent out?

Did you happen to let WCM know of the installation problems? I am close to ordering, I hope I do not have the same problems. The dash pad currently in my '69 has the foam cut away from lower right corner of the glove box opening, so obviously the installer had a similar problem.

K D Sorry man. No I did not. I managed to fiddle around enough to get it to work where I’m happy enough with it. It opens/closes and it looks perfect when locked in place. The only thing I have to do it pull up a little when I first open the glove box. I can live with that. Hope your dash is flawless. Please post again here once you’re finished. This seems to be a problem with wcm dash pads. Mine has those exact same problems

norman roberts bummer. I always wondered if I’d have had a better/easier time had it been summer time. Oh well. I’m really happy with it. Managed to finess the lid later. It opens well enough without binding. Sorry to hear yours is the same on that side.
