Yep. Still have it. 👍 It may pop up for sale some day. I’m kinda itchin’ for a new project but I really love the car. Who knows. This one is numbers matching too btw. ❤️ The more I dug into it the more I suspected. Got confirmation from VW with the birth certificate.

Thanks for the straight talk normal guy way you explained my 74 vdubber gas smell. The people I bought it from replaced the fuel tank and just coiled the extra vent hose on top of the tank. Fuel kept dribbling from it on each drive and I knew it had to vent SOMEWHERE! Didn't know gravity and a simple hole up front would slove the issue. Thanks again and I hope Spring has sprung for you up north. It has here in Tennessee. Best to you...

I ran across your video some time ago and bought a fire extinguisher. Last week i washed the car shined it all up. Checked the lines, fuel filter still had a small fire. Caught it within about 10 seconds but still some damage. Mechanic said it was the coil overheated

@@joeyo5952 fair enough maybe I should have shown it but, no offence, I didn’t think anyone would be interested in watching me turn two screws in. I thought explaining it would be enough. Honestly though, to answer your question, all you need to do is tighten the screws at either end. 👍 You’ll be good to go.

Hi. I would like to install the impact stripes on my 71 Súper Beetle, but I observed that my front bumper have two rectangular holes in each extreme (like yours), but have not the same holes in the rear bumper. Could you tell me if it is correct. Maybe my Bug got a brazilian replacement bumper (brazilian Bug have not a impact rubber stripes in the bumper, just a black adhesive tape. Thank you

If you have the openings at either end you’re good to go. That’s where the strip mounts. The other holes in the bumper don’t play a role in any securing of any kind. You should be good.

so in my day, mid 80's the problem was the fan belt. it would crack with age, delaminate and the outside strip would whack the fuel line and basically remove the hose from the pump.. it would also whack the distributor cap and break it. so sparks everywhere and fuel pumping.. Its lost. Critical is to check the fan belt for cracking and replace it immediately.

Thx. I have a 73 super beetle that mechanic 'repaired' twice but still has smell. One mechanic replaced fuel lines, the other replaced rubber hose and clamp at filler neck. Seemed to work at first but after 2 weeks, smell returned when making left turns...frustrating! I can feel some gas around filler neck but can't tell where its leaking.

The screenshot from the Haynes manual of the star positions ... I assume those views are from underneath the car, looking at the backing plate, correct? So for example, the Left Front, the stars are at the 9:00 position, towards the back of the car, correct? Because my front drums were opposite, with the stars pointing towards the front of the car... my back drums matched the diagram though

What a nice video. Very helpful. Easy to follow. Thanks so much. I have had 2 massive ‘68 Bug engine fires. One was 20 years ago and the other one was a few weeks ago. I suspect worn hoses in both cases. The fires just burn and burn til the Fire Department gets there. One contributing factor is that the sound proofing material is made out of TAR!. Tar burns and burns and burns. There are triangular panels on each side of the engine compartment and one rectangular one behind the fan shroud. Why in the world this material was chosen is a mystery to me. One my rebuild, I am planning to have either no panels at all or fireproof panels. Any suggestions would be helpful.

good video…I know someone who lost his beloved Type 1…i use AN style fuel hose…i simply tap everything for NPT…and use NPT to AN adapters-I use an aluminum 100 micron inline filter with AN connections. I use a fuse block rear for the positive battery connections and replaced fuse box in front trunk with marine/blade type box. Finally I carry a small fire extinguisher…$9.80 currently st home depot
