Helpful video Al. What may surprise some folk when they look inside the 009 distributors under the contact breaker base plate is that there is only 1 spring that returns the centrifugal advance weights and that is all there is supposed to be despite the distributor shaft assembly having the attachments for 2 springs. If rebuilding use a small amount of the correct grease and oil as too much can attract dirt which can eventually cause issues.

In the the 60’s we put the dist in a dist machine when you do the engine tune,you set the dwell,put it in and just set the timing

Never heard of one of those? Why not do it in the engine? Tx for watching 😊👍

@@PeoplesCar Thank you! I'm having a "sputtering and backfiring" issue on my '68 Ghia. I've checked timing, cleaned, filtered, and polished EVERYTHING... Im stumped! ...any advise?
@PeoplesCar3 ай бұрын
Popping through the carb is usually timing, valves, air leak on inlet manifold/carb. Popping through exhaust usual air leak after gas leaves the engine. All get a bit complicated if you add a crappy carb or fuel pump into the same mix. It's a PITA but all you can do is try and eliminate one thing at a time. My friends was doing this yesterday. I reset his valve gaps, checked and re did the timing again, made sure wires all correct. Knew his dizzy and carb was good. Depending how bad the pop and misfire is, it's possible timing is 180 degrees out on dizzy, this engine was. Need to find TDC compression stroke on no1, and make sure the rotar is pointing to the correct lead! But doesn't sound that bad?? Also found he ha a duff plug with gap way too tight. Best of luck 😊👍

Where can you buy a good set of points, like Bosch
@PeoplesCar2 ай бұрын
@@keithschneider6348 I tend to use CoolAirVW for most stuff. I did a search and if have a later engine they have bosch points. If buy online use the discount code PEOPLESCAR and will save 5%. I DONT get a cut or owt 😉👍 www.coolairvw.co.uk/search/?search=points

Thank you, I’ve been endlessly searching if there was some specific grease for the dizzy cam, looks like I can use a thin layer of just about any type of grease, I did hear you shouldn’t use white lithium for some reason
@PeoplesCar Жыл бұрын
I believe white lithium grease ie Vaseline goes hard and sticky after a while. I'd stick to molly or bearing grease 😊👍

Thanks a lot for a great video! I never did Maintence on mine before, on the 1600CT it would only be a matter of lubricating & removing residue since it got no points?
@PeoplesCar Жыл бұрын
My pleasure thanks for watching 😊👍 As for the CT dizzy, that's all I would do. I've never actually broken one down to see what's inside and don't think I'd want to risk damaging anything. The magnetic points in theory always have a gap so nothing in the dizzy body rubs/wears/or is eroded via a spark like points so in theory should be maintenence free other than the rotar, cap and occasional drop of oil. Best of luck and happy dubbing 😄

Hello I would like to fit 3/4 Rock role in my t3 t25 what type fit and some Alloy wheels ? Thanks
@PeoplesCar6 ай бұрын
@@iamcracked9700 I've never bought a new one, all ones ive fitted have always been DIY or home made hobbies 😅 Generally a 3/4 shouldn't be a prob, it's usually width to whatever units you have thats the problem if there is one. Alloys wheels there are plenty. Loads of options off the shelf if have the funds, otherwise pretty much anything 5/112 and your good to go. Be careful with sone merc wheels however as the centre hoke can be too small on these for fitment on a T25 without modification. If your not sure how to check PCD this is how kzbin.info/www/bejne/raK5aGyFgbBod7c its a tricky size tho as so many so close to it. Im actually selling a cheap set on ebay atm if in the UK item no 126546925507. Need to be sure they are suitable weight wise for your van too. I've used thse ones listed above but tbh not sure they or many others on the market technically are. Hope that helps. Best of luck 😊👍

I bought one of those rev limiting rotors, my engine didn't want to turn over when I popped it in. Went back to the original rotor and it fired right up. Do I need to do something different to prep it or something?
@PeoplesCar Жыл бұрын
I'll be honest ibhavent run this engine ir limiter in quite a few years but i dont remember setting it up different? I think the one I used tibuse was a 4.6k but i don't think they sell them any more.

Is the plastic cover over the points required? Mine doesn’t have one.
@PeoplesCar Жыл бұрын
It's a good question and you know I'm not totally sure. I always assumed it was a dust cap but now you ask im not sure where that dust might come from. The cap isnt sealed but is on pretty tight. So I'd say it's better as designed but don't think it would be overly detrimental if missing, especially if your on top of maintenance etc and don't live in a desert. Not sure if that helps lol 🙂
@LarryDickmann11 ай бұрын
Just a dust cover. It has nothing to do with performance.

Why wouldn't you just put electronic ignition in there and you never have to touch it again....
@PeoplesCar11 ай бұрын
I know many people do, and have friends with then fitted on their vehicles. I believe they are using Pertronix ones. However I've personally never used any other than stock ones on the CT motor. Id happily recommend them if I knew which are good and those that might not be, but without first hand experience I'd rather not advise on a product. I may fit some in a future video however. Thanks for watching and for your comment 😊👍
@daddygrasshopper11 ай бұрын
When electronic ignition fails, it fails completely. You can tell when points need adjusting or a bit of cleaning until you can change them 👍🏼
@PeoplesCar11 ай бұрын
@@daddygrasshopper like yourself I'm pretty attuned to my cars feel and sound so would pick up on this also, but suspect many aren't. I know someone that drove a tyre off the rim! 😅 Would be interesting to know how many people have issues with 'maintenance free' electronic points. Not sure how would find that out though. I only know of one failure. Thanks for watching 😊👍
@TheCominghome11 ай бұрын
Now listen here Budgie bum, what a load of waffle! they don't even make cars or motorbikes for that matter with points anymore because of how unreliable points are! electronic ignitions virtually never fail! that's why ALL modern manufacturers use them.@@daddygrasshopper
