A couple years ago we found the El Chico Gooseneck trailer that was manufactured by International Travel Trailer Inc. Since then many people have asked us what we did with it. We were asked about the hitch and if we had any interior videos or photos. We sold our trailer to Oklahoma Bugs shortly after we bought it but about 2 years ago another trailer surfaced in Colorado fully restored with a matching VW Bug tow vehicle. This past weekend we traveled to Colorado to see this trailer in person and get you guys some more video of this restored Gooseneck Trailer.
Enjoy. JC.

Unfortunately as the generations get younger taking care of things becomes less and holding onto things becomes shorter. The younger generations do not seem to value durability and life span more than having the latest and greatest. Hence in my opinion our drastically accelerated environmental issues.

A couple of thoughts: The frontal aerodynamics look like they are better with that trailer compared to regular ones - it looks like it would _push down_ the car and thus give better grip. But if it's windy from the side, does it pull on the car in an unfavorable way?

I love stuff like this. What a cool little trailer! I never would’ve thought they would make an accessory quite like this for a VW Bug, let alone the fact that a VW Bug could pull something like this. The craftsmanship on this restoration is fantastic. It probably looks 10 times better now than it did when it was brand new. Truly some beautiful work!

The promotional film showed the hitch attached entirely to the drip rail not with holes through the top of the car i remember the hitch attached in 4 places to spread the weight out along the drip rail. This was a very good video the gentleman did a great job putting it together with know directions. The trailer restoration was beautiful i helped my dad do a 35ft. Travel trailer they aren't easy with rounded corners some materials don't like bending. But it was a beauty when we were done we used it for yrs. Fishing and hunting.

The VW bug was what International Travel Inc used in the commercial in 1974 to promote this travel trailer. It has become known as a WV accessory which it can be but some other small cars could be used as well. The bug would probably be the best choice which is probably why they chose it for the commercial. It was a good idea as it looks like getting in and out of places would be much easier than when a trailer is hitched to the back. The two things do look great together.

What would be the issue? It has safety chains, lights, appears to have electric brakes, and the tow vehicle hitch is more that sufficiently strong along with the bodywork mounting. The power margin is much narrower than most north America drivers are used to but I've seen Peugeots pulling horse trailers in Bavaria without issue.

Just ran across this video. When my brother was assigned to Cannon AFB in New Mexico, another airman had one of these. My brother would only drive VW products his entire life and was very interested in this trailer designed as he loved to camp. When my brother retired in the mid 1980's, the guy still had the trailer and was stationed in Colorado at Peterson AFB, his last duty assignment before he was to retire himself. He had obtained a copy of the original plans and gave one to my brother. I would have to check with my sister in law to see if she knows where they are, as my brother passed about 4 years ago.

This trailer design is awesome! I just purchased a 1971 Super Beetle and plan to paint it yellow before its over. After seeing this, perhaps when I finish I need to find one of these trailers as well.

Guys it don't have to be to the measurement.. Just build a close version.. The average person isn't going to know anyway. There is enough shown here to get a very good general idea approx how to build your own. It just takes guts, skills and resources.. It's not rocket science; however, it does require skill to pull of a build such as this. Not for the novice by any-stretch of the imagination. Nice Restore Btw.. I dig the video

Dear Volkswear. Simply fantastic. Would have loved to see it run. Bob did an extraordinary good job. He owns a great place too. The hubcaps and especially the tail lights are definitely not my kind of taste. Original ones would be much nicer respectively fit better. But, as always, this is a matter of personal taste. Thanks a lot for saving restoring showing taping editing uploading and sharing. Best regards. Postscriptum: Please don't get me wrong but check out how often you use the word "actually".

I love this setup. But one thing. Take those bolts out of the hitch on the roof and shorten them so they are flush or in the headliner.

They are still for sale. The white one on thesamba is the original trailer we pulled out of a salvage yard a few years ago. There are 3 known to exist. JC.

I had one of these trailers back in the early 80's, but it was made full size for a four door car, I had a chevy impala that I towed the trailer with while I lived in Mesquite Texas, I visited the guy who bought it from me and he still had it and his boy was fixing it up for him and his wife to travel and camp in,
