Those little bug engines, the original 1600s, can do alot. Push around a 71 bus just fine. You let it go at its own speed. Don't expect a lot of power, try to travel when it is not super warm (air cooled, ya know?), just have fun cruising. This restoration is great; I'd love to see one on the road.

A couple of thoughts: The frontal aerodynamics look like they are better with that trailer compared to regular ones - it looks like it would _push down_ the car and thus give better grip. But if it's windy from the side, does it pull on the car in an unfavorable way?

The VW bug was what International Travel Inc used in the commercial in 1974 to promote this travel trailer. It has become known as a WV accessory which it can be but some other small cars could be used as well. The bug would probably be the best choice which is probably why they chose it for the commercial. It was a good idea as it looks like getting in and out of places would be much easier than when a trailer is hitched to the back. The two things do look great together.

The interior is amazing in this trailer. I think it is great that he restored this trailer without anybody in the VW Community really even knowing and then shows up to a show in Colorado Springs and blows everybody away with this thing. JC.
@bagatengris18023 жыл бұрын
Here is a suggestion. The trailer is towed with the gooseneck forward, but the gooseneck is tapered on the forward side. This is not an aerodynamic shape if the vehicle travels at less than speed of sound. If the gooseneck was square fronted, space inside could be more efficiently used. Any attempt at streamlining a subsonic vehicle must be done at the rear, where the vertical rear plane bordered by lines of air separation governs the size of the wake (low pressure) which follows the vehicle. Dimples on a golf ball effectively make the circle of air separation smaller than the ball diameter.
@artummomenti31473 жыл бұрын
Great idea. Umm you know that this was probably designed in the 60s right? And farmer Bob spent two years restoring and probably doesn't care about aerodynamics. You sound smart. You should build your own.
@bagatengris18023 жыл бұрын
@@artummomenti3147 Aerodynamics is a secondary consideration. Eliminating the taper at the front, making it a parallelepiped, would provide more sleeping space in the gooseneck and would make it possible to install another side window to match the existing one or a front window.

love the inside wood work.so beautiful rich wood tones.i love it.can see the issues with the front being weak like he said at the start of the vid and maybe they didnt want to address the financial need to fix it maybe the company had other behind the scene issues that prevented them from fixing and continuong to promote and push the product.i think this idea could have taken off maybe still could cuz of the ease alone of being able to move and park the trailor instead of having to only back it in alone makes it a selling point as that is a usual isuue with people.i can say myself im not the best prob.the worst at backing in a trailor and i would love anything that would make that easier.dunno but 1 thing for sure i love it

Lol so you bought the one in part 1...took no additional video then sold it (probably for a healthy profit because the original property owner likely had no clue what it was) Neat dude

There were a couple of them on thesamba.com very recently, so there are a few of them still out there!
@Volkswear5 жыл бұрын
They are still for sale. The white one on thesamba is the original trailer we pulled out of a salvage yard a few years ago. There are 3 known to exist. JC.

I had one of these trailers back in the early 80's, but it was made full size for a four door car, I had a chevy impala that I towed the trailer with while I lived in Mesquite Texas, I visited the guy who bought it from me and he still had it and his boy was fixing it up for him and his wife to travel and camp in,

Can see a market for a modern version? Think lightweight chassis,one piece fibreglass body shell. Modern technology parts fitted, etc? A very stylish and funky way to sleep four and enjoy the benefits of an outdoor lifestyle with minimum impact compared to an RV?
@Volkswear5 жыл бұрын
Agreed. Smaller more compact campers are becoming more popular for sure. Would be cool to see more with a retro style. Thanks for watching. JC.

I get exactly what you saying about the retro look. Perhaps take up styling clues from old type 2 vans? If it was a fibreglass one piece it would be super strong ,lightweight and could be easily matched style wise to the tow car? Got my sketch book out! Watch this space!

This is SO great! I'm not a VW guy but Kudos! The only Major distraction is the Horrifying wheel covers on the Bug and trailer.

Beautiful, great job guys! I bought a factory redo Diesel Beetle, 2015 model but sold in June 2017. VW dropped the “bubble” and it’s something like a foot shorter than the original beetles. Making a similar trailer work on my Beetle would require a shorter RV.

Very cool! Flat windshield super beetle? Those vehicles are crying out for some Mooneyes stickers.
@Volkswear5 жыл бұрын
The first year or maybe two of Super Beetles had a "flat" windshield as opposed to the later super beetles that had a large rounded windshield. That is why you will hear people sometimes refer to them as flat windshield supers. JC.

What a great idea for a trailer, especially for those not used to reversing trailers and for tight spots also. Thsnks for showing!

Beautiful restoration I'm impressed, but geez you wouldn't want to go over a bump and hit your head on those protruding bolts that go through the roof of the car. 🤕
