What a awesome part two of your crazy adventure!!! Well we have learned that these old busses can and do take the heat, and they can climb to 9,000 plus feet and live to talk about it! We also learned that riding behind a leaky diesel vanagon maybe not the best position to be in, definatly not with safari windows open. But most of all, we learned that you cant stop a bunch of VW Lifers from having fun!!! So thanks for bringing this adventure to us all!!!

My name is Alan from S. Oregon. I LOVE... VW LIFE !!! Watch it all the time just finished part II of your last weeklong trip to NM. Matt, I would like your email address. I want to share my 3 youtube posted videos w/you guys! Restored a March (early) 1952 Split window standard Type 1 with 25hp engine. (painted chrome, mechanical brakes) My very first VW was a 36hp 58 bug (bought in 1973 for $337 cash)which I drove 100 miles to Williams, Oregon as I was restoring to original an early Jaguar (Jag-YOU-wuh )1954 XK-120 Roadster (OTS, open-two-seater). Took 20 years to finish Jag as I was on a strict budget. (2 kids to feed!). My 2nd VW was a 1954 all original 36 hp Ragtop. Drove this car out of a local wrecking yard and the semaphore signals were still working! (bought it in 1977 and restored it. My current VW project is a 1970 all-original, stock Karmann Ghia coupe. (have some questions for Mad Martin on this one) I found it in a dry barn in Santa Clarita, Ca. parked and covered for 35 years! I will email you pics. Have been involved w/VWs all my life (67years old). Have a MILLIONS of stories regarding travels, buying/restoring VWS. Looking forward to your email Matt Jackson!

In a month, I’m driving to Idaho in my bug pulling a small trailer. What oil temp is like the STOP temperature? How do I know it’s too hot?
@VWLifeVW4 жыл бұрын
well, 220-230 is about as hot as your want it. if you get a digital laser thermometer from harbor freight you can go to the back and take temps at stops. i'd recommend not turning it off during gas stops. we always leave them running, it's when you stop them that you have problems.
@markdeartola11544 жыл бұрын
@@VWLifeVW Ok ill invest in one of those thermometers. Doing the dipstick test, my engine is definitively running hot though.All my tins are in place except the bottom tins (attached to the heater boxes). Engine compartment is sealed off. Dog-house cooler, valves adjusted. I think Ive covered it all. Why is it so scalding hot still?
@VWLifeVW4 жыл бұрын
@@markdeartola1154 wait a minute you need all your tins! Even the ones on the heater boxes. Are you talking about the two curved ones that go towards the back? Those are often referred to as the ski slopes. If those are missing you need to get them
@markdeartola11544 жыл бұрын
VW Life Yes! The ski slopes. I picked some up last week and will install when I pull the engine. Yet everyone has told me that while they’re there for a reason, those by themselves shouldn’t be the singular cause for my engine being so hot I can barely even grip the deck lid handle, let alone the searing dipstick!!
