Bits of the mashed valves on 5 got into the intake and ingested by the other cylinders.The dropped intake valve got mashed up into small bits.

Well that has indeed had its day! What's the turbo looking like Steve? Could the turbo have gone bang and then got ingested into the cylinders?
@pistonbroke2 жыл бұрын
Turbo is fine. The only thing I didn't look at was the egr, could be that I suppose.

How the turbo looks like the blades have broken up but that wouldn't have dropped they valves sounds and looks like a few issues steve but as you say it's toast Thanks for sharing Steven

Turbo looks fine and I think it would be impossible for turbo bits to end up in the cylinders as they'd have to pass through the intercooler first.

Hi Steve yes I did think of that to be honest just forgot to add it after I sent message I had a similar issue on a Cummins engine were the valves broke up and managed to find it’s way into other inlets because put it down to it running on as it was a 16 cylinder so didn’t stop till it went through liner shut down in low coolant pressure but damage was too much the block got it also , loving the channel mate 👍

The egr was blanked too so it's not like something could go in one cylinder, out the exhaust valve, through egr and into another cylinder. Strange how it's happened, I'll look deeper into it and see what I can find. Cheers for sticking around. 👍

Prone for lifters hence why its dropped lack of servicing, camshaft looked warn too they have a more of a point on the cam lobes. Also the oil filter housing copper washer leaks and looses pressure from pump.. just rebuilt mine 2.5, the cylinder heads are the same off the old VW T4 very cheap to buy, people have done om606 I believe in the sprinter/crafters on KZbin... Its easier to take it out with box, an if refitting its a pita to fit dpf afterwards.. The camshaft timing the 5mm bar locks it off at the rear the front wheel is floating has marks on it tdc plastic cover behind has a notch in it which lines up to the mark on the floating wheel, pin goes in the crank quite simple of your talent sir

Cheers for the info. Should have a head, pistons & rods for it soon.

@@pistonbroke Im guessing the T4 Transporters Pistons and rods are the same, the block isn't as the crank sensors different.. it would be worth researching as the parts for T4 was cheaper than buying for Crafter! A lot of parts was thrown together when they made the Crafter from the Transporter T4 2.5 engine seemed to be just an revised lump with a DPF on it, the 2.5 T5 is completely different. The conversion I looked into was doing a 1.9tdi PD on my crafter but everyone said its to small but the reliability out of them 1.9 PD put any Diesel engine to shame, the new 2.0tdi crafters are rubbish so did well with getting a 2.5!

5 has probably dropped the valves and then chunks of metal have maybe gone round the egr system into the inlet of other cylinders

Egr was blanked off. The bits in the other cylinders were flat chunks like piston rings. I don't know where they came from.
