Aziz, you brought back so many memories! I did not have Golf, but I had Seat Leon Mk1, 1.9, 90HP (ALH). I spent 11 years with it, I loved it, it was amazing car and I drove it for more than 220,000 km. This was my first car, which my dad bought for me, when I got my driving license. Most of my life and most of the nice things I experienced were during the time I owned that car. I've remapped it after change of clutch to 132 hp and 320 Nm. Stage 1, no mechanical changes. After the remap, the fuel consumption dropped with almost half a liter and the consumption was about 5.2-5.5L/100 km. I've added cruise control to it (for as little as 35 EUR). I've spent a lot of money for its maintenance (for what the car actually was), but that was because I wanted the car to work and be reliable so if I get up in the morning and decide to travel 2000km for the next 5 days, it will handle it without any issues and get me back home. The amazing thing about was the acceleration - it was programmed on purpose to start kicking a lot more after 2000 RPM all the way to 4200 RPM. Top of the range power for this car was hell of a difference, in comparson to how it performed before the remap/chip tuning or whatever you wanna call it. And since I am on that topic, my dream car when I got my driving license was obtained was the Seat Leon Mk1 1.9 TDI with 150 hp (ARL), but I didn't have the money back then. I now have the money, but now I am familiy man so do yourself a favour and buy the car you want, when you want to and remember you will suffer and you will pay a lot of money, but you will never ever have that desire and time when you get older. Some things need to be done at the exact time of your life. Now, I am more of man who would love to have Mercedes E220/350 CDI W213 estate, rather a small hothatch. I promise you this time however, I will get the car I want. P.S. I gotta say that the Golf mk4 1.9, (ASZ) 131 facelifted was a little more quiter and the Golf seems to have better sound insulation, but I would still prefer my baby ALH :) Cheers guys, enjoy life!

You don't need to worry little nephew easy does 55+ mpg combined. It's the ultimate car and ultimate engine so much better than the pd150. The injectors were awful on the pd150

My first car was a 2002 Golf TDI with a 5 speed manual so seeing this video is really cool. I’ve had it since I turned 16 five years ago and it’s still my daily driver to this day with 256k miles on it. Absolute gems these cars and engines are

I had this engine in passat from 2002 and I drove it for 450.000+ km. It had all black soft leather, automatic and sunroof. It was 130 hp engine. Super strong engine, bulletproof. After all those km, I still sold it for a great price, and that's what I regret today. So good memories.

Bought a 2000 mk4 TDI two red 116hp AJM engine, on st nikolas day 19th december, 2013, as a 19 year old, Today, 12.01.2025 as a 30 year old, i still own it, what a BEAST of a car. I have turbine of a ASZ 131hp. The PD engines are amazing to tune, and with stage 1 or 2 you can get massive torque and hp. Tho there are common faults. Most irritating i will say the sponge comming out from the airvents, if your car does this, you most probably have bad heating. Driver door mechanism latch, they fail and your interrior welcome lights will work only when they want to. Door cylinder lock, the spring usually fails if you unlock by key. Stuck cup holder in the back, cupholders in the front tend to fail, if you have the machagony/wooden look, this tends to crack and pieces are falling apart. If you have the asz/arl 131/150hp engine the red turbo hose is from a bad material and usually gets a cut/crack and the car will start to smoke when accelerating. The driver door inside handle gets scratches, and gets a nasty look. Whipers mechanism tend to seize up. Glove box is very gentle and prone to braking. 5th door lock/unlock problems most common fault a cable in the between area. I can go on and on with what faults they have, but i always say even for my golf, It has tons of electrical/manifacturing problems, but engine is NOT one of them. I enjoy driving it every single day with 341.000km on the clock.

imagine a 1.9 TDI in a modern car. That would be sick. Then I would happily even pay 60k€ for it since those old TDI's can do easily 600k km Back in the days when it was a VOLKS wagen not a WTF Wagon like now.

VW Diesels have basically always been really great. I personally drive the EA189, the successor of this 188 and it has 340'000km. In my backyard stands an Octavia with the current EA288 and that one also has 290'000km 😂 The ultimate 5 Liter cars to drive for over 300'000km. Buy one with a new timing belt and you got no worries for 150'000km
