Great video & clear spoken ive just got to do mine tomorrow morning dead battery & ive only replaced the battery 3wks ago was a bit weird getting it home after i got a jump start as the electronic power steering wasn't working i do hope this solves the problem 👍

Thankyou for the mega feedback I love hearing from everyone and usually when alternator fails the power steering is one of the first things to start messing around and not working

@@TheVWMechanic_official tks for the heads up just hopping it's not raining tomorrow while I'm doing it, I've got the battery on charge now but would think it would be ok to drive it tomorrow with the charged up battery to pick up the alternator 🤔

Can you go into more detail on coding the regulator? how is that done? getting ready to change alternator on 2015 Sportwagon TDI. Summer time here in Arizona USA, running 45 Deg C on average, and my voltage is typically 12.9 to 13.0 V. Are there torque values for the tensioner and alternator bolts? I appreciate the video and the help. true time saver. Thanks
@TheVWMechanic_official2 ай бұрын
Hey buddy thanks for the message yeah so the voltage regulator gets coded into the vehicle computer so it knows how to activate the smart charge system otherwise your alternator will just run at a quite low default value I’ll have to get a video together for you guys once I’m back at work on Monday and yes there’s just about a torque figure for every bolt and screw on a vehicle

Useful video, helped me change my alternator but after replacing only getting 12.v at the battery when running, what coding was needed?
@TheVWMechanic_official7 ай бұрын
On the modern vw yeah the battery regulator needs adapting for the smart charge to work

You done any 1.6s mate on the mk6? Just wondering if there the same relatively I can’t hack jobs where u can’t get a hand in lol
@TheVWMechanic_official11 ай бұрын
@jordanbickerton1066 fairly similar matey all from underneath unbolt ac pump and swing it out the way then wangle the alternator out take the dog bone mount off aswell so you’ve got more swing in the engine

You said two things had failed on the alternator you were changing,one was the pully clutch mechanism,what was the other as you failed to mention?.Also what year was the car? ref regulator coding/
@TheVWMechanic_official3 ай бұрын
2 things can fail either clutch pulley or the alternator itself and the car was a 2019

@@TheVWMechanic_official So why not just replace the clutch pully,if regulator and diode pack ok.Are these items sold separatly for Valeo alternators? Or are you just working to customer request ?

I totally agree with you but this was the time where Covid had placed massive strain on part supply and we couldn’t get anything other than an alternator so fleet company rrequested we do what we can to get the car back on the road asap

Yes. And it didn’t make much difference which is why I’m looking to upgrade to a 180a alternator. I’m just not sure if the start stop and non-stop start alternators are the same on my 2012 2.0tdi golf.

@HS786UK934 ай бұрын
@@TheVWMechanic_official we usually do upgrades to alternators in the sound system scene so they likely won’t match up anyway to the point where I have a Mitsubishi 270a externally regulated alternator on my mk4 (when things were Easier to work on)

Couldn’t you just change the pulley?
@TheVWMechanic_official10 ай бұрын
Absolutely and I will always give that option to the customer however with parts being crazy hard to get when this video was filmed I could only buy the full unit as the pulley was unavailable to order. I know it sounds crazy as the new alternator comes with a new pulley on
@740GLE10 ай бұрын
Nothing like not being able to replace a $35 pulley vs a $700 alternator. Least it got fixed. I’m in the middle of trying to get the pulley off while still installed on the car, I have a new pulley in hand.
@TheVWMechanic_official10 ай бұрын
@740GLE you know it buddy things are a little better on the parts front now and things are becoming more available
@shazadmanzoor56336 ай бұрын
Maybe it was the alternator pulley and not the alternator hmmmmmmm.
@TheVWMechanic_official6 ай бұрын
It was the pulley but this was at a time where almost everything was on back order and we couldn’t get the pulley separate and the fleet company wanted the car back on the road asap so instructed us to replace the alternator
