I learned a lot from your video👍 Ended up taking the diff off my self and took it apart. The smaller bearing on the right side was completely worn out. The bigger bearing on the left side was still in good shape, but replaced both bearings. That’s was the easy part. My problems started when assembling, and I ended up taken it to a mechanic. Shims were too big, and when we tried to fit the housing, it was almost impossible to rotate the shaft. New shims are almost impossible to find. The mechanic took the shims to a specialist, and he took off 0,2mm, on the right side shim. The diff has been running for a year now, and everything is good. Thanks for an informative thread and video. Greetings from Denmark 🇩🇰

AWESOME!! I just purchased a used 2017 Alltrack and was on the VWVortex site and discovered a bunch of people with this issue, I’m experiencing the soft grinding sound that gets louder when I decelerate on my passenger side (U.S model). I’m scheduled to visit my local VW dealership on Monday as the car is a CPO. I know their gonna try to give me the run around (breaks, rotors, diff fluid change etc…) I’m gonna show them this video now 👍

Noice fix. The dealers only want to replace today as they make more money and don't have to warranty the work if the part fails. Good to see a real mechanic figure it out, offer the customer a better cheaper fix.

Hello, thanks really for this video, I have to do the same on haldex 5 for octavia scout , but I don't find any video to remove the haldex from the car (there are 2 bolts with access by the top so it seems mandatory to remove rear axle? And for the rebuild after changes of bearings is there any setting/measure to do ? thanks a lot for your help
@vjlau02 Жыл бұрын
Hi, you are correct, either you remove the rear axle, or you can drill 2 holes inside the truck and you get access to the 2 screw you mentioned. Done the same operation some 2y ago. Hope this information helps. Just google, haldex removal, holes inside trunk etc.

I have a 2022 Skoda Octavia 2.0 diesel manual. It’s been with Skoda awaiting a faulty gearbox differential for 5 months now for a warranty repair. Apparently the part isn’t available and Skoda asked the dealer to strip the gearbox to identify the part! The gearbox is in bits and they’re still waiting for a replacement part. Good news is they’ve had to supply me a courtesy car, so I’m driving around in a 2024 Skoda superb!! What a daft company.

I got a 2015 Audi S3 and has a noise like you made. I changed my wheel bearings and rotors only to find out it's a bearing on the diff. So far, I've had no luck finding anyone that rebuilds these rear diffs. All shops say they need to replace the whole carrier assembly. I have not seen any schematics to find the bearing part number

Hi, I have a Audi A3 Quattro and have rumbling noise issues from rear of the car, been told it the Haldex unit, but not so sure because I’ve take the 4wd drive fuse out and the noise is still their, does this mean it could be a wheel bearing instead, as the Haldex isn’t working after fuse is removed surely ?

With regard to backlash: I'm in the middle of rebuilding one of these and I fail to see how you were able to check and adjust the backlash. There are no keeper bolts or backlash adjustment bolts on this differential. There are only washer spacers behind the carrier bearing races. Even though you mentioned that you checked backlash, I'm not seeing any way to check it since the housing is essentially what clamps the diff in the unit. It can't be accessed after you put the housing back together.

Hello. are any additional special tools needed? is it necessary to adjust the tooth clearance when replacing the bearings? what should be the play between the teeth? I can cover up. or maybe the way with a piece of paper is enough? I have a problem because it hums from 60km / h and there is a radial play on the left joint that goes into diff. (on the bearing in the middle) will the replacement of the bearings help? . I have a lot of background and skills, but I'm a bit afraid 😁
