Today we're looking at the electrics on the VW Grand California. There's some differences in this model to the California Ocean or California Coast, so it's worth checking them out if you're undecided on which model to buy.
If you have any questions about this model, or any model in the VW Commercial range, let me know in the comments.
Thanks for watching! California Chris.

Super … Thx for this info… I wish people in the garage where I bought my camper had so much knowledge as you… Just one question … any one has installed solar panels after ? Bc I bought showroom Model and they didn’t have the solar and for off grid i think it’s kind of necessary for the fridge . Thx a lot in advance .

Is there a simple reason why the house battery isn’t charging when plugged in to mains power. Thanks for all the great videos.

Hello Very good and useful feed and advice. I have such a quick question. Well, after connecting to the power supply and turning on the main fuse / Grand California 600 / - you can still hear the noise from the area of the clean water tank. At night it is bothersome. Is it supposed to be like that? The noise disappears only after disconnecting the electricity from the outside. water pump? I will be grateful for your answer. Greetings from Poland :)

Good day @CaliforniaChris. Thank you for this video. I have a question. You said that if I connect vehicle to power supply than it will charge both batteries. I left my GC600 for 5 weeks without movement after this all my batteries were fully dead. I tried to connect vehicle to power supply, but no effect after 1-2 hours. Is it a bug or a feature?

Thank you for this. The 12v outlets in the front of the vehicle still work when the car is off. So when I plug something in the 12v outlet when the car is off, then I am using the car battery and NOT the house battery? If so, should I avoid doing this? I have the 104W panel on the 600 and do not have the AC unit. Is there any way to add another solar panel on the roof? Finally, is there any way to upgrade the house battery? On my previous camper van I added a LiFePO which takes up about the same space as an AGM but has a much greater capacity and can also be drained more without damaging the battery. But I understand that LiFePO are much more susceptible to heat, with the house battery being under the bonnet, I am not sure LiFePO would work. If the solar and battery are upgraded, I don't see any reason to use a generator. I do know the solar is not sufficient to recharge the battery if the fridge, water pumps, charging, etc are used and the car not started for a few days. But I think if the battery is upgraded and if an additional 200W panel were to be installed on the roof, than it would be perfect.

great comments, curious to know what you have been doing so far and if you already found out which battery the front sockets are connected to. I am getting a GC soon and will most likely try to fit a few smaller solar panels on the roof connected to probably a portable battery with huge capacity. I did the same with the Merc Marco Polo with only a 100 watt panel on the roof and in summer it gave me more than enough juice to not get below 70% even when using a laptop for a couple of hours.

@@maxmaxi4636 The battery under the hood is the house battery while the battery under the passenger seat is the engine battery. I haven't done any modifications so just using it stock. In winter time, 100W panel is simply not enough to keep the battery fully charged and the fridge on. Just had the van away for the weekend and had about 20% battery after 1 night (had water heater, air heater, and fridge on). I am worried about AGM lifespan ... (It is now winter in Southern Hemisphere)

Chris, need some help with my 680…It will not charge from EHU, it’s been back to dealer 3 times now and they gave me a stupid continental adapter cable, which is no use to me in the UK and can’t be used on campsites anyway??? Charges fine when driving, although doesn’t hold charge for very long even when just running the fridge on one light??? I’ve bought a big power station as back-up but I shouldn’t have too, any ideas ??? Steve

Hello I have a big problem since the beginning with my grand cali 600, the solar panel don't work and don't give energy to the battery...anyone's have the same problem?...I put the grand cali 600 in vw guaranty and they tell me the problem gonna solve since january but until now, nothing happen...its horrible, we don't have autonomy and only work when we go camping and buy electricity....

I have the same issue with my gc600. I would like to upgrade the battery, inverter, add another solar panel etc but obviously don’t want to void the 5 year warranty. Very disappointed with the power system on an otherwise decent camper van.
