Tyres and wheel size makes a massive impact, especially at highway speeds, 2 inches difference can mean 5-10% efficiency difference. I would not understate that.

Actually quite not in this case, the wheels on both vehicles have very similar rolling resistance, which is around 0.65%

@@oijhhytdirhrbru the efficiency loss mostly comes form the rim size and the aerodynamic impact it has, not from the rolling resistance. That's why it has the highest impact at high speeds

Nope, doesn't make much difference with VW ID cars due to the sizes chosen. Bjorn did back to back ID3 tests a couple of years back with 18/19/20" tyres and found there was no difference at all consumption. The tyre width is what matters most.

@@venti4268you’re wrong and having a one or even two sizes in wheel difference are often 5 max 10% difference in consumption. These cars have a lot of torque and that accounts for very little difference. I confirm as I had numerous cars and changed the wheels. Also between a Tesla MY LR vs P there is like a 10-12% difference maximum. I don’t know both models deeply but the aerodynamics is one of the biggest factors (form, height of the car in total, distance from the ground to the car, etc.) and the id7 seems to win on that. My MY also needs more energy than the similar hardware on the M3.

I've just ordered new ID.4 refresh but must say the ID.7 is a beauty in person. I would love to get one some day but it's just a bit expensive now, hopefully in next version, they reduce the price. Amazing car. This new ID.4 though looks great too, completely improved internally

05:22 - Chris, you're forgetting the different drag coefficients that the cars have: ID.4 has 0.28, while the ID.7 has 0.23. That's a huge difference, and it's being enforced at high speeds.

Thanks for this, I would think the ID.7 would have two things to it's advantage at 130km/h, aerodynamics and smaller wheels. I'm curious why you thought the ID.7 would not do much better than the ID.4? A bit hard to do but it would be interesting to see the results of a similar test if the wheels were swapped to the other car.

7’s better designed imo for economy and bigger range, plus 4’s 21’ wheels will have a notable impact I’d say! Not a big ID4 fan and I’d probably opt for new Ford Explorer there, which should be better ranged again, nearer ID7’s capabilities.

VW ID 7 is a well built car. I really like to have one but I have 2 concerns 1. Heat pump. I don’t understand why VW doesn’t put such an important equipment into the car 🤷‍♂️ 2. Software.You said that software issues are mostly solved As you know that Tesla has very good software and heat pump is standard. However, built quality and material quality is not as good as VW ID 7 I am so confused between 2 cars. Which one should I pick?

Get the ID.7. Teslas are everywhere and the values of them second hand collapse. VW has had that too but not to the same level as Tesla. Build quality of the ID.7 is much better that even the new Tesla. Plus biggest bonus of all, you won't be lining Elon's pockets either 🤣

Mostly the difference well be aerodynamics, id7 at 0.23Cd and the id4 at 0.28Cd 130kph is quite high speed also, maybe where you live is normal, here in NZ limit is 100kph most people travel under 110kph. 130 sounds much better. Are the wheels interchangeable on the two cars? That would be a good test?

It's not the heat pump. It's the wheel size. Bigger wheels are proven to dramatically reduce range. Hyundai Ioniq 6 proved that quite easily.

according to the dutch VW website this roughly makes about 30km difference in WLTP. As in, the ID.4 would have approximately 30km more wltp if it were on 19" wheels than it does on 21" wheels.

Quick question, is the software now on 4.0 or 5.0 Plaform? (like the tourer ID7)? is OTA upgrade possible to go from 4.0 -> 5.0 on the ID7 or needs to be done in the VW workshop?

The average speed with the ID4 is 109 km hours that of the ID7 is 99 km hours this explains that. Both are very good cars. I have ordered this new ID4. Delivery scheduled for next October. Looking forward to driving it. Thank you for your vidéos

Yes, in the final summary this is what is indicated but it makes the car screens look at the time of recharging. The ID4 indicates 109 km/h, the ID7, 99 km/h

This is because the trip computer still counts time when the car is parked but not locked. So the screen you see on second car is 6 minutes later with the car stopped, and average speed has dropped due to this. Stupid VW programming.
