One of the biggest factors in enjoying an audio system is low road noise. You should db meter for NVH in your reviews.
@rjsmith20075 ай бұрын
Yea wouldn't mind a frequency graph of road noise (the volume of frequencies is more telling than just a single volume level) and a G force meter to measure those G forces during all out acceleration on these new 1.4L turbo beasts.

I feel like you've hit a sweet spot with the review length. You still cover all the important stuff, without making it 50 minutes long. Not that I don't enjoy the 50 minute videos, I could watch 2 hour ones, but the shorter reviews will be better for the popularity of the channel, and it doesn't feel like we are experiencing a worse quality review. Of course, we'll still want the occasional longer review for special vehicles.

The '19 Jetta is an over-sculpted derivative of the current Ford Fusion and Chrysler 200 - but done in a poor fashion. Then add the hideous Tesla 3 (or Corolla) tail lamp shape. Bash on a 145% outsized Passat grille and ... it is a Big Fail. I now appreciate the previous generation's 'bland styling' for its restraint. DISCLAIMER: I do currently lease a 2019 Jetta S with a 6M trans. Sometimes I regurgitate as I approach the vehicle, but once inside its like a genetically superior designer handled things here, and it makes for a pleasing helm. Gripes? the front windscreen is too small and the lower cowl too high happily A- pillars are mostly unobtrusive. The side lights are too short deferring to the high beltline. Rear glass angle and a high seatback make for near zero visibility aft. Interior plastics seem to melt and crackle at will. The transaxle can be clunky during economical short shifting - though the syncromesh is excellent. Overall It's a definite 3 year lease ONLY when on special, which is too bad as a bit of money thrown at the suspension tires and wheels would make it much more entertaining . Now, have at me - Cheers! Sandy.

I drove it in eco, normal and sport modes and mechanically I would give it full marks-- I was impressed (didn't get any sense of anything negative with over-intrusive nannys at all-- but I wasn't pretending to be The Stig, like the reviewer). It cruised effortless at 70-75 MPH at about 1800 RPM and about 36 MPG in eco mode. The real issue was the road noise, which was noticeably louder than other similar Japanese and Korean cars I've rented.

Yay Mark! Been waiting for your review of my new baby as yours is one of the most technical car channels I watch on KZbin and I really appreciate your opinions. I have had a manual trans Jetta S trim for about 16 months and now a new 35th Anniversary GLI for three months also with the 6 speed and it has been excellent. Honestly I really feel the DCC or adaptive dampeners on my version really does amazing things to keep the body roll in check and in fact in sport mode over dampened for the street a bit even. Comfort mode for every day and normal for the back roads seems to be the sweet spot and I will be reserving sport mode for the autocross track. This is my first time in a FWD performance car that has an LSD installed and it is unbelievable the difference it makes. You can just carve through the hard turns with zero tire skip or screaming. Yes I fully agree on both the lame fake engine sounds and the total lack of any real exhaust note to speak of. This bothered me so much and since no catbacks are currently available I had a local muffler shop hack off my resonator and the two mufflers and replaces the res with a glasspack and she sounds perfect now. About like a stock Golf R in open mode or maybe slightly louder with zero drone on the highway. Another fun fact for this old man as I am amazed how this car is just a fast if not faster than my first car I had in the 80s; a 1969 Mustang coup with a 351w V8 and an aftermarket cam, intake and headers. She is putting down a 14 quarter mile and zero to sixty in about 5.5 or so with summer tires. I do plan to share my ownership experience on my channel and will be on the autocross track with her next season. Thank you so much for this and all of your awesome reviews sir!

This modern stuff like paddle shifters and "sport mode" is whacky and off-putting to me. I had a 2009 VW CC, which I enjoyed, but what a rough ride over uneven roads! The wide profile tires I felt caused it, while the benefit of them was to REALLY hold the road around curves. Right now I'm driving a 2007 VW Jetta Fahrenheit GLI which I love. @aycemanm81512 жыл бұрын
@@SWEETVENOM100 so far at 25,000 miles I have had no issues. I have a Cobb stage one ECU/dsg tune and it really woke the car up . The big problem I have had is there is no traction between 1st and second even with stickier tires . I added a rear sway bar that really cleaned up the handling as I found there was more body roll than I liked stock. I also added a dog bone insert that helped a bit with wheel hop. But outside of that I love it the power is great and it sounds great now with the mbrp exhaust I put in. The 2022 models have a more louder sounding exhaust that I wish had come with these to begin with . The cons I would say is that if you tune it you will have to mod the suspension to have any traction but stock it's fine if you don't tune it. Also I wish they had added a stiffer rear sway stock but it's a simple mod and makes a difference . But overall this is probably the best GLI VW had ever put out and I predict will be the last. I have a US 35th Anniversary GLI with a DSG and so I'm watching this video mostly because I like Savagegeese. Great content, great production, offkilter sense of humor. (Basically the 35th is an S with DCC and some badges and wheels with a neat red rim stripe. ) Overall: great car so far. Misses: - The base seats are slightly too long and hit behind my knees. I can probably fix this with careful selection of a squishy seat cushion or lumbar support. I'm slightly oddly proportioned and car seats tend to rub me the wrong way regardless of car. - D and S mode are pretty annoyingly tuned for efficiency. Flooring it onto the highway in S leaves the revs screaming for too long, but it otherwise stays too low in the RPMs, idles high, and it has pretty bangy downshifts as you come to a stop. D is... D is made for watching the stupid 'blue meter' that tells you how you're not destroying the environment, really, we promise we're not cheating this time. - The stock tires aren't super great. - No exhaust noise at all. - If you don't stop your music playing through CarPlay before unplugging your phone, you may end up being blasted with the normal radio. Not sure if this is a VW radio thing or a CarPlay thing. - There's no boost gauge, that's only on the upgraded capacitive touch infotainment + digital cockpit in the Autobahn edition. Why? It's a turbo performance sedan, put the boost gauge in it! I don't need a Think Blue Da Ba Dee meter. Hits: - M mode DSG is amazing. Sure, it upshifts on its own, but I kinda like that. Slap it in M, stand on the gas, and you will get maximum acceleration gee whiz. It also auto downshifts as you come to a stop, and it's so incredibly smooth doing it versus S mode. It doesn't engine brake doing that, so when you're just mildly coming to a stop it's perfect. You want a blip downshift to 2nd at 40mph? You can do that, too. M lets me drive exactly in the RPM range I want and the shifts are so fast. I love it slightly more all the time. - When you just don't wanna be bothered to shift yourself, D and S are fine even with what I said above. - It's all the fun stuff I like about the GTI (test drove a current model one when buying my previous car, which was short lived as I was in a serious accident that totaled it), but the tire sizing has more sidewall and the wheelbase is longer so the ride quality is better in Comfort mode. I live in Michigan so there's no real reason to have super sporty suspension. Our roads are shit. - Holy crap the brakes. I had a MK6 GTI several years ago and the brakes always felt kind of weird and not confidence inducing. The monster brakes on the MK7 GLI feel like they could stop me and the car behind me. I disabled the soundaktor in software and installed an Injen intake. If you do this, don't worry about fuel trims as this is a MAP car and not MAF so the intake is just a place to attach an air filter. Driving in D will treat you to the most completely goofball turbo woosh, which I'm pretty sure is the turbo spooling up maximum boost and then dumping it constantly through the recirculation valve because you're at 1800rpm and the intake tumble flaps are still closed. It makes me drive in M even more. Once you hit about 3000rpm, then you hear the intake growl.

Mark , glad your feeling well again. Great to have you back. I kinda liked the Asian guys presence once he got his stuff together. Your whole crew is wonderful. Screw the idiots who don't get your humor. As for the GLI, had the prior model, you're pretty much spot on except for the Damn Seats! While initial perception and comfort was good after the 3 years was up on the lease my ass was what talked me out of keeping this car. Trips over 1.5 hours were tortuous. I could not do it again so i bailed on the brand.

Anyone can tune the EA888 engine, but it would seem a nice 6 or 8 cylinder sound would befit the design moreso. And you just cannot achieve the low end effortless torque of a 6 or 8 cylinder from a turbo 4. Boost lag, throttle response, less cylinders is always more vibration. 4 bangers don't sound good unless they are a V4.

I'm puzzled. My GTI with the same DSG transmission holds a gear I select all the way to redline when the transmission has been placed in manual mode with the gear selector on the central console. It does NOT upshift on its own. It's true that the DSG downshifts to second and then to first gear as I come to a stop in manual mode but that's the only "automatic" behavior it exhibits. It's also true that if the transmission is left in automated mode but the paddles (or the central "stick" is moved fore or aft) the transmission will initially change to manual control and then revert to automatic but if the vehicle is set to manual mode it stays in the gear I select until I change it.
@savagegeese5 жыл бұрын
I tried it every which way it always Auto upshifted. didn't matter what the stability control setting was either.
@stephenhendricks1035 жыл бұрын
@@savagegeese If that's the case it's a significant difference between the GTI and the GLI. Perhaps the difficulty you encountered is due to the procedure required to "lock" manual mode. (1) Move the console mounted shifter to D/S. (2) Push the shift lever to the right to engage manual mode. (3) Use the paddles to upshift/downshift to the desired gear OR push the lever forward to upshift and pull the lever back to downshift. The transmission will remain in the gear you select until you come to a stop. As you decelerate to about 5 mph it will shift to second gear and when you come to a complete stop it will shift to first gear. Otherwise the gear you select will remain at least to redline. I've never pushed it beyond that point so I can't say what the behavior is in that circumstance. You can engage manual mode temporarily while in D or S by using the paddles without first locking the manual mode by moving the console lever to the right. But if you do it will return to automatic shifting after a few moments. That seems to be the behavior you're describing.
@stephenhendricks1035 жыл бұрын
I've done some additional research including checking with a fellow I know at my dealer and with Achtuning, the local (and well known) APR tuning shop here in the Seattle area. Here are the results. In both the GTI and GLI pushing the DSG gear selector to the right will engage "tiptronic" mode (i.e.locks the vehicle in manual mode.) That will prevent the transmission from upshifting on its own until you reach redline. At that point the transmission will upshift automatically to prevent engine damage. Also, as noted above, the Tiptronic setting will automatically downshift to first gear as one comes to a stop to avoid lugging and stalling the engine.

@jebediahspringfield94965 жыл бұрын
@@blazegamefame It's only a slight price jump if you get the base model without all the leather/extra features. I think if you were considering a base model GLI, I would go with an Si instead for the reliability, more standard features, and slower depreciation. However, if you are willing to drop 30 grand on a Jetta then I'm sure GLI interior would be sublime.
@orientaldagger69205 жыл бұрын
@@blazegamefame Its not really that much more than an SI. The S trim is only about $1.5k more expensive than the SI and you can likely get it more discounted than and SI. I would get this car, it has quite a bit more power and just seems more solid on the road.
