Hi, I went directly with wolkswagen dealer, that part is called engine oil vaccum pump, you will not find the gasket anywhere is not sold separately you need to buy the whole enchilada and is about $470, well I went n bought a Lucas engine oil stop a leak depending how severe your leak is it will work, however you must run your vehicle for a 2-3 days, if that doesn't work? buy an RTV, an RTV is like a silicone, once it sets/dryes it works like a gasket, remove the engine oil vaccum pump plate, clean the area as good as possible do not remove the old gasket apply evenly the RTV, be generous let it set for 20-30 mins, replace the plate and Wham!!! problem fixed, hope this will help some of you guys, good luck!!

I've watched a bunch of videos on this problem and all of them show how to remove the entire pump. Common opinion is, this is the ONLY leak on the pump and in most, if not all cases, removing this plate to replace the gasket is all that is necessary. Yes, you can buy a rebuild kit which is less expensive than buying an entire pump, but that still takes a lot of extra time. Because this is the only video I've seen showing ONLY this stage which saves unnecessary work and extra time, I give this video "two thumbs up". Great video, guys! I have this leak. I'm going to follow these guys' lead and change ONLY this rubber gasket. If that does not stop the leak, then I will go back in and replace all of the gaskets with the rebuild kit I just bought.

I just did this job today on my 2008 VW Rabbit and I have some tips which make the job of replacing this O-ring style gasket easier. First, remove the battery, case and tray. This gives excellent access. Second, get several sizes of 1/4" drive socket extensions and use short T25 bits to fit in a socket. You can use these extensions as screwdrivers after loosening the bits with very small 1/4" drive socket wrenches and 1/4" drive ratchet wrenches. (You can get these tools on eBay, Amazon, etc.) You will NOT need a universal socket joint because you can slide a 1/4" drive extension underneath the automatic transmission gear selector without removing it. Third, take your time when inserting the new gasket into its groove. It will go in all the way if you are patient and use your fingers to make sure it is flush. Once in the groove, rub the surface of the gasket and groove with grease to make it slick and not rub against the cover plate when you re-install it. While you're at it, rub some grease on the cover plate after you have cleaned it off. Gently tighten all 4 screws evenly, making several passes "around the circle", until they are all snug. Gently snug them with a socket or ratchet wrench. Finally, torque the screws (again, a little at a time) until you have tightened them all to 10 Nm or 87in-lbs. After I did this, I sprayed Brakleen all around the area to clean off the oil and be able to check for future leaks. Then I put the car back together, went for a test drive and had no more leak!!!!! Hope this helps.

So for anyone reading this. The part they opened up is the vacuum pump. Officially that gasket is not replaceable, you replace the entire pump. However a company called rkx sells a pump rebuild kit, includes the gasket. Some have gone as far as just putting in some silicon sealer instead. There are a few other options but most vw shops will recommend complete pump replacement. The pump is $300 or so, and labor is quite high on some models due to pump location.

There is no battle if they fixed the leak. They could have opted for a comprehensive fix and replaced all the gaskets and vacuum pump itself because you can't be sure which gasket leaks or even if the pump is degraded.

I have been searching the interwebs high and low for a video on replacing the oil filter housing/ bracket on the 2.5l engine. I have already done the vacuum pump repair, and only a month later I developed a leak at the oil filter housing. It appears to be coming from the seal between the block and bracket, or maybe cracked, or possibly oil cooler gasket, so I purchased a new housing assembly and both gasket kits. Some people claim you have to remove the manifold and go in thru the top. Others say to remove the front clip and go in that way, while others say to go at it from underneath and just remove everything until you get down to the bracket bolts. If I could at least get an idea of how to start this so that I am not spinning my wheels ... I would appreciate it much

Holy buckets of shit! I've had my car "repaired" twice: once by a personal mechanic for $240. The second time for same issue to the VW Dealership. Under "warranty " it still cost $650. 6 months later: my car hemmoraged oil in my driveway. Now the dealership wants$1,650. to install a new gasket that they say looks like it's NEVER been changed. I'm pissed-off now! Thank you, thank you, thank you for this video!

Melissa Brzescinski Yes, they also asked me for $1,420.00 to fix that same leak. I looked up TheHumbleMechanic and he as a step by step guide on how to replace the entire vacuum pump. It seals in two sides. It sounds like the first repair was what you saw here, and the second was to replace the pump. They remove the transmission, that’s why it’s a lot of money on labor. But, there’s a way to replace it without removing the tranny. That’s how I did it for $220.00 for the vacuum pump (parts). Lots of cash in my pocket...

@@gr8jpn In my experience and research, that is a load of shit that...to be fair...I initially believed to be true. Only diesel engines NEED a vacuum pump, because they don't have a manifold vacuum. Gas engines do have a manifold vacuum, thus they do not need a vacuum pump. Hence why most gas cars do not utilize a vacuum pump for braking. I have had the vacuum pump deleted in my mk6 jetta for a year now and the brakes feel the same as they did before.

I have a Jetta 2.5 with a slow oil leak. It is easy to mistake it for being the rear main seal when it may be an oil leak at the vacuum pump. since they are close to each other. It may be possible to change the vacuum pump without removing the transmission too. I am not 100% sure about it but if you have a leak that may be the vacuum pump, you may want to look and see if that can be repaired at all without messing with the transmission too much if at all. I know I would be really pissed if I paid a ton of money to pull the transmission and it was doable somehow without doing that. It is only worse when you need a new transmission (one repair many people dread).
