Thank you . 90% of your help worked on a mk6 golf . My 2 bolts had been snapped off but putting a flat head screwdriver to the right of the bolt and hitting with a hammer loosened bolt enough remove with my fingers .the bolt on the left I had to brake a bit of plastic to make a window. When all the barrel was out the broken bit moved so I could remove ignition barrel with a paper clip ... your a life saver .

Top video because you EXPLAIN what you're doing and show where the hidden clips and tabs are. Could not have attempted this on my EoS without it, many thanks 👍 My shear bolts were sheared - I was able to remove them surprisingly easily by tapping the bolt edge at an angle with a centre punch. For the left hand bolt I had to cut away a small section of plastic near to the steering column to get better access to the bolt.
@michaeljohns51548 күн бұрын
I didn't see your comment. I drilled a small pilot hole to provide access to hit the head at the right angle to loosen the screw. Otherwise a great video. He was so lucky to stull have the heads on the bolts !!

Thank you so much for this great video. I could not have completed my Mk6 Golf repair without you. Such a valuable reference. I'll add just a couple of points from my experience of doing this job. 1. To remove the shear bolts use an extractor bit and a drill with a right angle drive attachment. Extractor bits rotate counter clockwise and after drilling a pilot hole they attack the metal with a jarring motion that loosens the bolt. Be sure to centre the bit and if the bolt is very stubborn use an extractor tap to unwind the bolt. Once loose, you can turn the bolts by hand. Be patient and ensure you detach all electrical components so the drill swarf doesn't get into the small sockets. 2.My key would not turn to the on position so I could not push the thin wire in to release the key lock cylinder. This was because something had broken inside the steering lock barrel. So once I removed the ignition barrel from the steering column I cut through the barrel about 1cm to the key side of the steering lock pin assembly, careful to a old the key barrel. This enabled me to turn the key to the on position and remove the key cylinder. So I could fit the new barrel but keep my existing keys. 3. After reassembling everything and reconnecting the battery, which I had out of the car for 3 days waiting for the new barrel, the airbag and red traction control warning lights were illuminated. These went out and stayed out after driving the car 50 metres or so. My advice to anyone attempting this is to ensure you have the necessary tools and be patient and follow this video precisely. The steering assembly circuit board module (rectangular black plastic box under the column) must be removed before attempting to remove the indicator and wiper stalks and the airbag clock. There appears to be minimal differences between the Mk5 in this video and the Mk6 assembly. Good luck this will save you a lot of money versus a dealership repair.

@@genesismunoz6539 it's an M8 Torx, very small size but not very tight so a suitable flat head across the points will probably work, though torx bit obviously best.

Thanks a lot for the video, very clear and complete. Thanks to you I can repair my car in two days (thanks to Amazon too, that delivery the new component this afternoon). In my case there was antitheft screws, so some extra works to remove it (i use a screwdriver and an hammer, and I have to make a drill in the left side otherwise you don't have any access to beat on the head of the screw and remove it). So many good things and... good job !🚗👋👍

Great video, good practice is to centralise the steering wheel in the straight forward position before removing the steering wheel then lock the igniter ring as it can only turn 2.5 turns towards each side, anymore will damage the slip ring….thats a costly part to replace, if its offset when you remove its so easy to get confused

Excellent video. I just replaced mine successfully. One thing I would like to add though- On my 2010 Jetta, the wipers don't work with the hood open. Nobody mentions this. So when you finish the job, and you are reassembling everything and testing, your wipers won't work if the hood is open. Don't be like me and disassemble the whole thing again, checking connectors, thinking you missed something, when all that was wrong was you left the hood up after reconnecting the battery.

This is overall a really good tutorial, but I hate that you glossed over the “special screws” at @4:56 . Those “special” break off bolts are easily the most difficult, frustrating, time consuming, and most likely to break something part of this entire job, and 99.99% of people attempting this job won’t have the luxury of new, unbroken screws for the sake of a video. You really should have detailed the process of removing the bolts via drilling, or tapping, or reverse bit or whatever method. In a tutorial, NEVER skip the hard part. ESPECIALLY show in detail the hard part.
