VW Mk1 Golf GTI 1983 Campaign Model - Resto / Respray

James' 1983 Helios Blue Campaign edition Mk1 Golf GTI was in need of a full restoration - John began by partly stripping the vehicle to assess the corrosion issues, got the engine running and began to compile a parts list.
A long time Golf owner, James waited many years for this particular model and we were excited to return it to it's former glory! However, the rot on this sought after Golf was sadly much worse than we'd all hoped and replacement front flitch panels were unavailable so John had to think outside the box on this one! We managed to purchase a complete front body cut of a Mk1 Golf - the benefits of this method are that the panels are definitely original and will definitely fit. As a bonus we can use sections of the donor chassis and tops of the A pillars which are also weak spots.
James' target upon completion of this project was to own an as near to factory original as possible. After a long and arduous prep operation the Golf went into paint for Mike to work his magic!
