Having owned a few Mk1 Campaign's back in the early 90's (they had the trip computer on them) and currently own 3 Mk2's, 2 with 20 Valve Turbo's in and one with a 2E Mk3 engine in, I have to agree with you, I think the Mk2 just has the edge, with it's comfort and usability as a daily, especially now as a nice Mk1 is worth a small fortune, I love my Mk2's and wouldn't swap them for any modern car.

Had a brand new 1 ! , my XR3i & RS Turbo mates thought I was mad however fantastic handling & a very free revving engine . Atlas Grey & BBS alloys 👌

Great video dude, have recently bought a 91 8v GTI and It's older that i am! It's my first MK2 and absolutely love driving it, deffo a keeper. Only downside is i can't stop buying shiny parts for it so the wallet is taking a serious battering! haha

Langers VW mate it really has! Agreed they are such simple cars but built so well. Values seem to be steadily rising too so it could be a good investment as well! Saying that the way i feel at the moment i dont think i'll ever want to sell it haha. All the best mate and keep the good videos coming!

I own a mk2 my self, just finishing up my build by December if everything goes on track. but my main suppliers are techtonics tuning, ecs tuning, Eurosport, Autohaus AZ,the scientific rabbit. Have fun mate! my build will be as follows, full exhaust with races headers and 2.25in cat back, 268° canshaft, with upgraded valves, lifters, Springs, ported intake manifold, adjustable cam gear, close ratio trans, lightened flywheel, stage 1 clutch, front and rear strut braces, H&R coils all round, racing control arm bushings, camber plates front and rear, USRT shift kit, USRT steel braided lines, with slotted and vented upfront and slotted rear, and running 195 or 205 sport tiers (street/autocross).

Great review, I've owned mine for a year and a half and learned things in this video I never knew before. (89 8v GTI). I didn't realise the rear seats tilted forward in the boot! Or the fact of that the original interior comes when a drivers height adjustment! Making me ditch my MK1 cabriolet interior out of it.

I have a 92 GTI 16v, MK2. It was the last of them in the States. Very few made it here that year, too. I have had it since 1999, I think I am going to Restore some minor needs like paint and a new headliner (need to find the material, if you have any ideas?). There's just nothing quite as cool. Great videos.

I just repaired the intake, the accordion piece had a leak. It was no longer produced, so it took some digging. Engine check light is still on.. so back to the mechanic it goes... however, the idle is all good and it is running well now, at least.

i know what you mean i have a 83 mk1 89 mk2 and a 1994 Corrado VR6 says it all really mind you i do like the MK4 R32s but yeah i love old VW's always will do! ;)

IMHO, The best Golf / GTi is the Mk1. End of story 😆 ( and it fits easily in my 1970s built environment block garage, which modern golf's don't )

oh dear :( sorry to here that if Im honest James weren't trying to be Clarkson but i was possibly over trying due to a negative comment on the original on a facebook by someone inter-mating that they got bored of it plus it was my first video with no editing no other shots.................so i sort off get what they were trying to say but thought id do it again !!
