VW Mk4 Wheel Bearing Change '99-'05

After 400K on my Golf TDI, I only had one wheel bearing go out, and that was when the car was still under warranty. They tend to last a lot of years. That said, when it comes time, this is a great tutorial on how to do it. One of these years, I've gotta invest in a hydraulic press!

Pretty much the same bearing replacement procedure as the Mk1 VW Golf/Jetta platforms. Why redesign it if it still works, right? That said, I'd probably just rent a bearing/ball joint press kit from my local parts store and do it in-situ, as I don't have access to a 20 ton press. But I can imagine just what a PITA that would be. Hope I don't need to do that anytime soon! Thanks for the video Oli - Merry Belated Christmas and have a good New Years!

I have an 04 Jetta wagon. This looks like a pain in the ass. Hopefully I don’t need to do this.

It wasn't too bad honestly. Not easy, but also not super difficult. Though it did require some tools that took me a few years to collect. You can "rent" the bearing changer kit and ball joint press from your local auto parts store.

@ hey I have a question I’ve been trying to answer. Mk 4 2.0 L Jetta automatic four-speed. 1230,000 miles. Do you need to change the transmission fluid? And can you make a video on that? On the forms, they say, you don’t necessarily need to do a full fluid change or, but just to check to see if you’re running low and add more. How can I do that on jackstands?

Thanks but you're about 3 weeks late. lol I had a wheel bearing go on my 03 GTI and had to blindly guess how to do it haha luckily PO gave me wheel bearings when he sold it to me
