VW MK7 GTI Clutch Swap - SouthBend Stage 3 Daily - The Ultimate DIY

Welcome back to Pinky's Garage, today we wrap up a clutch swap on this 2015 Volkswagen GTI without the Performance Package. We are swapping out an old 60k mile SouthBend Stage 2 Endurance Clutch, for a SouthBend Stage 3 Daily. We learned a lot of tricks whilst doing this project that would pertain more so to the DIY'er performing this on jack stands alone.

Interesting that you removed the entire subframe. I somehow managed to reinstall the trans with everything subframe and control arm attached, but it's a huge struggle. That bulge for the diff makes it a huge pain, hitting the subframe, the wheel arch and the bell housing liked to wedge itself on the pressure plate or flywheel. My tactic was to rotate that hump up towards the sky to get it passed the subframe then rotate it 90 degrees clockwise back into position, but I kept snagging the pressure plate and flywheel doing it. I peeped the exhaust cutout, must be fun. How does your clutch feel and do you think it was worth the time?

On the LSD cars you can just pull the diff. But yeah on a open diff I definitely had to sag the subframe. With an aftermarket intercooler you’ve got to sag it 100% Clutch feels awesome. About 2 months in now and she grabs great and pedal feels awesome. Honestly just feels the same as the SB Stg2 Endurance I had before Thanks for the watch!

Great video! What are the jack stands under? Subframe?

Thank you! Yes they're on the subframe where the steering rack bolts up. I had to sag the subframe though to put the trans in, so I moved them to the rails.

Great video, but cleaning the gearbox with the driveshaft flanges out is a dumb idea. How much debris and water did you get inside the gearbox?

TBH, I had to replace the gearbox anyways which didn't make it into the video, the input shaft was super loose.
