This is the second vid in a series of how I have built Rail Buggy's over the years. It's been a long time since I have done this. But it should be fun. I need a simple car to test out VW Transmissions ETC.

I discovered years ago that those old VW dune buggies were the perfect vehicles for my rocky, rutted and muddy roads. Finding one that was built with your expertise was near impossible and could be pricey. I enjoy watching you work and TALK, I'll return. Many thanks.

Thanks for the memories! 50 years ago I watched my grandfather weld Corvairs together. You are a wonderful person for sharing your life experience with others. I am building an airplane with a VW engine, and watching you motivates me to reach for the stars with the Lords guidance!

That takes me back to 1977 when l did gas welding as part of my engineering apprenticeship. I have only one grandson who has just turned 2 years old, who is Beetle mad and loves watching me working on mine and pass me the spanners. He has also gradually acquired all of my Beetle toy cars so hopefully a future enthusiast ...😊

G'day Mr EZGZ, It always makes my day to see one of your videos pop up. How easily we toss these old ways aside. Thank you for jogging the old noggin. I'm going to revisit this technique on my current build. I watch a channel called Bad Chad he uses coat hangers. No fancy tools. A welder, hand grinder, and a hammer. So thanks for sharing I'm looking forward to following along. ✌️ Peace man from Melbourne Australia.

Great vid Greg! I love welding with oxy/ace I definitely have the most practice with it. Whats nice is you can weld thick and thin metal, bend and cut all with one tool. I have a old torch set, mig(which i use for smaller stuff) and arc which i never use but got it for free. I had welders poisoning once it was horrible i thought I was dying, i was actually showing my friend how to weld with a torch welding 1/4 plate with a welding magnet from harbor freight(red arrow magnet. I actually melted the magnet and burnt all the red paint off and boy did that do me in! Thanks for another great video catch you on the flip side!

When I was doing a lot of gas welding I would keep a block of wood close by to clear the tip when something would clog the tip and cause that whistling, just rub the tip on the wood with the flame your using and it will clear it.

Can you tell me if a 68 swingaxle can be swapped for a 63 and vice-versa? I believe the axles on a 68 are slightly longer. I'm fixing up the 68 for my granddaughter with a stock 1500 and the 63 has a lower geared 3rd and 4th. They're both Baja. Or would it be better to change out the axles when I do the swap? I'm taking them both out to clean everything up and do a little maintenance anyway so any help would be appreciated.
@TheEZGZ5 ай бұрын
The 68 is a 4:12 Ring and pinion and is clearanced for a 12 volt flywheel and starting motor. You can replace the starter bushing for a 6 volt starter or go the other way. The 63 is 4:37 RP and is weaker in several area's but will handle a 1500 just fine. Lower gears for bigger tires is always good if your low on power.
@goldentrunnell74505 ай бұрын
@TheEZGZ thanks for the response, KZbin videos like yours are helpful. I forgot to mention that the 63 came with a 1600 DP and converted to 12 volt when I bought it. The previous owner told me the transaxle was from Rancho I believe. Anyway its very low geared especially in 3rd and 4th so I wanted to pair it with the 68 1500. The 63 now has a 2110, dual Webers, cam, heads, etc. Seems like I'm geared way too low for that much power. Obviously it would be way easier to just swap engines but for other reasons I don't want to go that route. Thanks again
