Buddy, your lights are not standard, most likely you (or a previous owner) changed one of them. On my Polo both have the plastic half a cm rotating rings to hold de bulbs in place, none have retention clips.
@CycloneCyd5 жыл бұрын
Thanks Emm. I hadn't considered that aspect. Double checking, the Haynes manual gives instructions for the ring holder type (left light in this car), so this would seem to be standard. I'll have to look at the right lamp for any markings (eg part numbers) that might identify it's origin.
@CycloneCyd5 жыл бұрын
You're correct. The left side light 💡 is clearly the OE one, it has the Valeo markings on it, whilst the right side one has no manufacturer markings so is an 'aftermarket' unit. Unfortunately, the YT system doesn't allow videos to be edited by adding to them 😬, so I shall have to leave the video 📽 and add something in the description 📖. I've also pinned this comment. Many thanks for your input. Appreciated. 👍

No ways that's nonsense. Nothing was changed. My polo vivo made in South Africa follows the Euro spec. The fittings are exactly the same as this from the factory. You get 2 types just depends on available at the factory. It could have either or.

Appreciate the walk through. I have a 2004 & the main bulbs are held in place the same way on both sides. No retaining springs, just the plastic rotating bulb retainer ring, which is new to me. Life saver. Thanks.

Subtle difference on mine, in that both indicators are under those screw top thingies. But even if I had thought of taking that cap off (very very tight, but then it's been on there since 2004 ;) ) I would never in a million years have guessed how the plastic paddle contraption worked, so thanks for that! (Side note... and perhaps of help to others.... the "faulty" bulb looked fine to me on removal, and worked on a battery. So now what? Then I noticed that none of the lights on that side worked- headlights etc. So what's common? Great big plug that looked like it brought all the wires to the lights on that side, was loose! I had just got the car back from having the radiator replaced, and they obviously hadn't clicked that common plug home.) (Side note #2: Must have taken you some time to get those camera angles correct from inside the engine compartment. Great work.)

Great video Cyclone, one question, my lights seem absolutely rubbish, when switching to main beam, is it only the two round middle lights that come on, is this the only main beam lights? I can actually have them on full beam and nobody even flashes me to advise they are so rubbish?? I love the little VW, lots of small issues but runs like a dream!!

@CycloneCyd5 жыл бұрын
No, there's no need to disconnect battery. There is no danger from 12V DC. Make sure the bulbs have been OFF for 10 mins before changing though - those halogens run very hot (200C plus). And it might seem obvious, but don't do it with the engine running. Thanks for watching and interacting. Don't forget to share and subscribe.

That's illegal here in the UK. The vast majority of kits are utter rubbish - poor beam, dazzle oncoming drivers etc - that's why. You can change the W5W sides to LEd though - I've recently bought some of these and am well chuffed with them bit.ly/w5w_LED

If range is poor, maybe the headlights are pointing down too much. Probalbly worth having them adjusted upwards at a garage. Also check they are not lowered using the dash thumbwheel.
