Seems like a timing belt tensioner. I had this noise on my Golf. The tensioner was registered in opposite direction. Practically was not something bad, but the noise was like this whining... until we change the direction of tightening

The noise is coming from the timing belt and specifically from the camshaft gear being worn out because of the high mileage :)
