That is a surprisingly thorough testprocedure! Very nice, good pacing and very good method of procedure. The brown residue which is most likely from subpar fuel with excess sulfates etc. won't be burnt away with Liqui Moly. Only with high quality fuel you get a chance. That being said, this residue is neglectable and only carbon buildup is of real concern. Well done!

Great video. Thank you for putting the time and mileage into the project. Liqui Moly is in my opinion the best overall to always use as quality of fuel slowly gets worse. You might want to swap your plugs, valve clean can leave a strange byproduct on them. Fresh plugs will always help everything work the way it should during cleaning.

You know you can also clean plugs? My dad used to do it on his cars when I was a child (loved 'helping' him work on the car at weekends). He had a soft wire bristle brush just for the job, would whip out the plugs, clean off the junk (leaded fuel back then and clearly not as squeaky clean as people like to think) and then check the gap (and reset as needed) with a feeler gauge. Really simple job anyone can do. Seems wasteful to bin plugs just because they look dirty. They last a long time really (my grandad was involved in the manufacture of NGK plugs).

No more smoke, the tops of the cylinders are very clean. And the exhaust pipes don't have that black soot. They look new. The cars runs great. I would have used Yamaha's Yamalube Ring Free Plus Fuel additive in the fuel at a shock treatment dosage. This is widely used in the outboard 2 stroke marine industry to remove carbon from valves, combustions chambers, and largely preventing piston rings from sticking. I use this on my outboard engines at every fill-up and it keeps the engine and spark plugs incredibly clean and is safe for both 2 and 4 stroke engines. Ring free treats 10 gallons per ounce, and the "shock treatment" is 5 gallons per ounce is what some people use when they initially buy a used boat that's never been treated with the additive for aggressive cleaning of carbon. See the below video link of this guy using it in an attempt to help his oil consumption. This product is a highly concentrated cleaner, and I would simply mix this with a gallon of gas, pour it into the fuel tank and then fill the gas tank at the station to get the syrup like consistency of the cleaner properly mixed into the fuel. This is not designed to be added to your oil....fuel only. kzbin.info/www/bejne/Y2Sslp-ra8l9rdE

In this video the cylinders are cleaner because the gasoline and the product is injected directly into the cylinder and does not pass through the valves. No it won't. Think of a blown head gasket. The cylinder that injest the coolant is perfectly clean. Piston and valves. The water turns to vapor and the washer fluid helps it turn to vapor faster. It does not take much. Inject it behind throttle body. Use a vacuum switch so it come on under load or when acceleration. Most buildup occurs from PVC positive crankcase ventilation.

I have a diesel car but always add the 'supreme' diesel rather than standard as it supposedely has more detergent in it. Of course no way for me to test that claim but I don't get DPF problems like so many other people. Sure the outlay is a bit higher but I'm not paying a garage to clear error codes or try and flush my DPF so probably balances out. I used to use a particular additive (won't name them) but after calling their helpline after I split some on myself the guy let slip it's basically kerosene... which would have been about 10 times cheaper to buy than the additive was.
@DIYAutoworksNG11 ай бұрын
Yea. I agree with higher quality fuels. The extra detergents does help engines run cleaner.

Excellent video! I wonder which had more effect on carbon removal. Driving hard for extended periods of time aka “Italian tune up” or the additive.

Good question! Both definitely had an effect. I'm yet to test removing significant carbon build up with just a Italian tune up. Will look into this whenever next I have a planned long trip!

@DIYAutoworksNG Жыл бұрын
As you can see, I used it in the video despite my car being direct injection. I've had no problems.
@azkikr1411 ай бұрын
Piston carbon build up isn't an issue on modern engines using modern fuel. Considering that Earth Dreams engines are direct injection, your worry should be carbon build up on the back of the intake valves. That's what Liqui Moly valve cleaner is meant for. Cleaning the fairly thin layer of carbon on the piston head is just burning money.
@irongoose386511 ай бұрын
Yeah, no mention of the car getting better MPGs or feeling like it has more power or idling better. Not to mention once Liqui Moly is out of your system the carbon is going to rapidly build right back up again.

Next time try spraying water into the intake while reving in neutral. You’ll basically steam clean your combustion chambers. It will be even cleaner than the liquimoly.
@DIYAutoworksNG10 ай бұрын
I've basically avoided this method, because in my opinion, some of it will go past the piston rings and form an emulsion/encourage sludge. Project Farm also noted this finding.

Can't promise I'll want to intentionally build up carbon😅. This engine hates carbon and pings once build up is substantial. For me, installing an oil catch can has drastically reduced buildup.
