One thing as a mechanic you never get the full story from a customer until you look in a boot or under seats then you contact them then you get a different story from the first hours waisted

That is absolutely correct, I think they feel if I don’t mention it they won’t see it and hopefully that will make it cheaper 😂😂😂

I'd give my eye teeth to get the issues you get in, Peter. Normal, modern stuff. Today, I spent 4 hours working on a '79 landrover with no functioning lights - none. No indicators, no brake lights,no headlights - nada. Dead lights. Been everywhere. You could plug in the Launch Euroscan 5000 & it wouldn't give you so much as a hint - or even anywhere to plug the plug. Dicked about for 2 hours using "Logic" & got it so I'd brake lights of sorts, indicators that also flashed every other light on the yoke & a fuse that was glowing so bright, you could see it better than the indicators - before it would blow. After 3 hours, it got on my hoop so I cut the rear loom back to a nub, started cutting the front loom back to the basics - whereby I discovered that the last place this was in - that fitted "All new lights" - that didn't work - had wired the front RH indicator feed to earth. If you know Landrovers, you know you can't see too much of the front wiring & even if you could, nothing would make sense. The entire body was effectively an indicator circuit due to one tiny wire. Every time I walk into our local motor factors, they roll their eyes & ask what sort of insane, unavailable, oddball stuff do I want now? - we get on great but I do their heads in, because all I ever get is the stuff nobody else wants to touch - or that everyone has "had a go at" already. Even I wince when I phone them up looking for the next oddball part nobody has asked them for in the last 10 years. . Give me that bloomin Polo any day of the week - but nobody ever does. I get the 1982 Toyota that has a fuel pump leak, or the Patrol that's overheating. WTF like? I got a Prius in last week - it was heaven - everywhere had refused it -to me, it was like a holiday tbh & the week before someone dropped in a Focus with a leak that nobody wanted to touch - it was beyond a doddle compared to the utter head-melts I get daily. Give me that Polo any day of the week.. Never get known for fixing the hard stuff - you'll just get endless hard stuff. "Hint" is when your customers are mostly mechanics. Mine are. I get the stuff they chucked their hats at. Mechanic Pal rings today - his own yoke - "It has my head done in, I'll drop it over.." Eh? WTF like?

If you get a reputation for fixing stuff that other lads can’t, well they just keep on coming. That older stuff can be hard especially if wiring diagrams aren’t available. You are then looking for a needle in a haystack.No bother to you though James 💪💪💪

Had a POOAF code on a 2011 ibiza 1.2 tdi last week .vcds was indicating the boost actuator was stuck . Checked rhat first but it had full smooth travel . It was travelling fully connected to a vac tester also and feedback was full range also . Had vacumn supply to the N75 solenoid valve and was delivering vac out to the actuator also but yet once clearing the code the fault would return after 30 sec or so. Turned out i was loosing vacumn through a tiny pin hole in the vac supply pipe to the N75 .it was rubbing against the airbox and eventually wore through. Patched it up and all was well again . Great video and diagnosis peter .

Well I must say that your little explanation of the issue you had on that Ibiza sounds text book. The correct approach meant to wasted parts fitted, just a simple little vacuum pipe. Well done mate 💪💪💪

I have seen similar on a VW Caddy with no screen washer working. Hours chasing the problem & all I had to do was disconnect the battery 😬😬😬

Very nice vid again. Once we had turbo actuator stuck on our diesel swift. We did not even recognize it until my mechanics did not tell it us:) Looks like older tiny diesel engines like 1,25 Multijet are less sensitive for such a thing like newer ones... This car has a beautiful color!

Thank you 🙏, variable veins are more likely to stick than the older watergate type. Newer designs are better but more common to fail 🤷🏼‍♂️🤷🏼‍♂️

NOT getting the full story of the car is a MAJOR problem - can chase your tail for hours / days - with part or duff infomation - when you get the REAL story you can fix it in minutes !! LOL - good work Peter & well thought out - your costomers dont know how lucky they are !!

Hi Colm, good information can absolutely shorten the repair time involved. Also I’m a bit of a devil for just jumping in and trying to find the answer straight away without talking in detail to the customer. Can’t teach an old dog new tricks 😬😬😬

One phone call and you were in business…wouldn’t you love to know why the initial engine rebuild…or was it just a turbo swap and then to know what muppet considered the job complete and handed back a car that possibly was now more problematic than before the initial work was done. Great video as always Peter, shame about the sunny south east failing quite dramatically on this cartoon ☔️ 😂😁🤣

The actuator needs to be adjusted to give the lever some more force to return.. looks like it is sticking..
@kennedysgarage3281
@kennedysgarage3281 4 ай бұрын
Adjusting the actuator changes the position sensor voltage, which I know can be overcome with a turbo relearn. But this doesn’t really change the force applied by the diaphragm too much. I think it was just debris wedged in at the variable veins from being removed and left sitting around at the salvage yard. It’s still going anyway so 🤞🤞🤞🤞

Could be sticking vanes what type of engine did fiat make it or is it Volkswagen own.
@kennedysgarage3281
@kennedysgarage3281 4 ай бұрын
It is a VW engine and yes you are most likely correct. But I think some abnormal piece of debris most likely fell in and got jammed in the variable veins while sitting on a shelf in a salvage yard or something like that. It never missed a beat once I pressed on the adjoining vein actuator or lever. The joys of it 😬😂😂😂
