I have used the bearing pull tool loads of times in the past. It was surprisingly easy and you can do it with the assembly on the car
@ayliose91882 жыл бұрын
Thank you very much for saying this. I was about to disassemble my car and I literally just got an alignment the other day. I can do this without disconnecting the tie rod and ball joint with the puller tool, right?
@andrewhiggins88732 жыл бұрын
@@ayliose9188 you will need to undo ball joint and steering tie rod to give you room to get the CV joint out of the way. If u leave the ball joint attached to the bottom arm it wont affect steering alignment. I will add that if the old bearing had a lot of play in it the alignment may alter the alignment.

The tuning fork is called a pickle fork. And they are absolutely great but you have to be careful with them. Because if you have to reuse your tie rods or ball joints the pickle fork can damage them or damage the rubber on them
@jaimelanda1 Жыл бұрын
What would be the appropriate tool to use and not damage the rods/ball joint rubber? Id like to buy it ahead of time. Thanks
@youandiryan Жыл бұрын
@@jaimelanda1 there are actually tools that you can use to separate the tie rod without damage. Just look them up on KZbin. But one way that you can do it. Is if you get a hammer and you hit the area of the steering knuckle and it will pop loose. Do not hit the threaded end, and do not hit the ball joint itself. Sometimes just hitting the tie rod right where the steering knuckle is connected to the tie rod will immediately pop it out. But if you are replacing your outer tie rods anyways you can use the pickle fork because it doesn't really matter if you damage it. But if you're not replacing the tie rod then it's not advisable to use the pickle fork

Wow! So, why didn't you use the press to push out the assembly? That's what I did, but I'm stuck with removing that bearing race. That's why I am here. So, far, using a Dremel, I've cut notches under the bearing race so I can use a puller with heat! I think that will work best. ......... and, I love my press! Nice showing a variety of methods to attack the disassembly. At the 12 minute mark, where you're showing that you had to move from torch to dremel to score the race stuck to the hub's stub, I want to add something I often do: After you score deeply enough with the cut off wheel in a dremel, I would use a -sharp- chisel and the hammer to pound on the crack. When you got deep enough, the chisel will crack the race, and then you can pry it up much more easily. Only one more tool in the kit used, in addition to the hammer you'd already used to remove the hub and bearing! :)
