My 02 Golf TDI 's ignition just crapped out yesterday. With the key off, all the warning dash lights are still flashing, key fits loose in the lock cylinder. Had to disconnect battery to turn off lights. I'm thinking it must be the lock cylinder is worn.?

2:35 I usually put a couple of lug bolts back in,and tighten them down with a couple of large washers for spacers instead of relying on the tapered rotor set screw. I've sheered a good 4-5 screws off when I'm in a hurry and don't use lugs. The sheared bolt usually walks right out though but it's a hassle. I'm about to replace my driver's side today with a Raxle in my Mk4 ,I wanted to see if that tin end cover from the inner joint goes on the new axle ,or if it's left open like an old mk1.

Wow! So, why didn't you use the press to push out the assembly? That's what I did, but I'm stuck with removing that bearing race. That's why I am here. So, far, using a Dremel, I've cut notches under the bearing race so I can use a puller with heat! I think that will work best. ......... and, I love my press! I've made all of my press tools, so no beating up good sockets. Thanks for your video.

Probably the most efficient way of doing it after heating it then turning it to loosen it quite ingenious. Thanks for the tip...

quick question: did you end up replacing the transmission mounting bolts, or did you reuse the same ones ?
@swtmnk3
@swtmnk3 11 ай бұрын
Typically, new bolts are recommended as bolts can stretch but that not always practical or necessary. I'm sure you could find some people arguing about it on the forms.

This is a great vid but don’t reuse your subframe bolts. They are torque to yield. Get a new set on fcp or urotuning

Why didn't you just buy a brand new one? they're not expensive. And I've had my steering rack changed and what car handles like a piece of sh1t. I literally want to strip it down, polybush it, new bearings, maybe even new drive shafts.

Great tutorial. Incidentally, Autozone will loan the cup kit needed to press bearings so that you don't resort to using expensive sockets to hammer them out. Looks like you have aftermarket axles on the car. If you've had them installed for a while and you like them, can you recommend the name brand? I want to do the same work on my '04 GTI VR6 that you did in this video. Also, do you have advice on how to remove and install the rear stub-axle and bearing on the MKIV? The rear bearings and stub axles look a little more challenging to mate together.
