Vw Super Beetle Baja Project Build

Hey everyone, thanks for watching my video about my 1972 vw super beetle baja. This was the first time I built the motor, bored to 1915 cc and stroked. Unfortunately it didn't last long due to a poorly machined rear bearing. 😐 Oh well, just another excuse to tear into the motor again!

That's awesome! Yeah we primer-ed it camo and it looked really good for a while, but when it faded we decided to just primer it grey as that was easier 😉 good luck on your project man!

Aircooled.net has rally springs that claim to lift about an inch above stock height, we also put strut mounts as well. Every little bit helps!

The springs we bought were stiffer and single spring rate with stronger steel, also from aircooled.net. If you go on their site and type in rally springs it will come up

Great stuff! So glad I found this channel!! I'm currently working on a 1979 Ford Cortina. Making a few KZbin videos as I go. Plan is to keep the ride height high, fit all terrain tyres and tubular scrub basher bumpers and road trip it around the dirt roads of Australia. Rally springs from aircooled.net will give you an extra inch in the front, gas struts and strut mounts help too. Any little bit adds up 😁

They rub a bit when we turn too far/flex too much offroad 😅 but we love how big they are! They just float over the dirt. We got the "baja champion" ko2 style

Great job! I'm about to build a 68 Baja on a 74 chassis! I hope mine comes out nearly as good! The body I have is just a shell... maybe I'll make videos of me working on it...

I see where u said u bought the springs to get an inch but what size spacer did u use an did u buy or build if u bought care to tell where from if built can u share pics or video I also got a super I am working on turning into a Baja and fixing to start on front suspension

We didn't use any spacers on this setup. Just the new rally spring, gas strut, and strut mount

What did you to upgrade to 2332?

+Bad Attitude Garage 94 bore, 84 stroke. Engle w120 cam, scat lifters, clearance and full flow case, weld #3, align bore, everything forged and chromoly. Built by fat in OC. Second time around building the engine. This video was the first half of my project, theres more to come!

That's awesome dude! Yeah she is really beefy. The first time we built her as 1915 stroked and she definitely didn't have as much bottom end 😉

What size turbo/carb you runnin? I've got a case right now that I'm gonna set up 2180 with a t3/t4. I'm curious to see what kind of top end that thing has!

@@dustbuggy I didn't have to notice they come on all Super Beetle's it's what makes them super Beetles besides there cute little faces... they don't do as well off road compared to the old school beam setup... that's why people don't typically make them into Baja's.. but hey who cares when you got a bored out 1641-1771-1880-1915-2332

Big motor and big tires make up for a lot lol. We've heard it all about supers, but I'd say we've proven they can handle their own offroad. We don't recommend anyone getting a super beetle for a baja, but this one had been damaged and someone turned her into one before we got there. We are just making her the monster she deserves to be 😁 going a arm setup and 3x3 in the rear very soon

@@dustbuggy neighbor across the road has 3x3's in the rear along with big 5's and a 22R toyota swap in his 68 I believe all custom fab. I have a 71 that someone Baja'd and I'm turning it back to the original grocery getter it was... the reason being is you can't go taller without changing the angle fo your tires... so if you want to get 5" of suspension travel you really can't? that's more for the big boy's who like to jump there beetles off the dunes though..

Yeah the angling is so that you don't end up bending your suspension over catching some air or a really big rock, always some kind of challenge with these cars! Good luck on your project, gonna go stock all around or performance?
