Hi all just a quick note, I watched your video and must say what a great help it was. I have the same kit, I thought how ever I broke the bolt trying to get the bearing out. The reason being I used the black plates to remove like you and after breaking the bolt I realised this was wrong in my set!!! I then got a new bolt and swapped to the silver set of pullers and the bearing came out as easy as that. Just thought I would let you all know, just worth checking before you start.

Thank you so much for this video! Without it I would probably never had dared to attempt this on my own :) Last saturday me and my friend changed the rear bearings for our 2WD vans/buses. First the left side for mine and then the right one for my friends. Only difference was that on my T5 we only removed the caliber without taking the pads off. Then on my friends T5 we only removed the disc while the brake caliber was on and fully intact/assembled. Only difficulty we had was when everything was finished and we couldn't get the one part of the installation tool to come out behind the hub. Quite a lot of hammering was needed. Next time have to try with lots of thick grease. Anyway thanks again!

Thanks for this - really helped me change my bearings on my T5.1 One issue I had was with the rings for refitting as it would not fit in between the hub flange and retaining ring so I couldn't clamp them together. I noticed on my new hub (FAG) it had a radius in that gap so a quick dress up of the plates with a grinder and flap disc and fitted no problem after it had the edge dressed up. After that it was a piece of cake following your guide. Cannot believe how quiet my van is now. Cheers!!

Great video. Thank you. I am just doing the rear bearings on my T5with it and it looked like it could be done with the sensor in situ ....I was dreading it would get damaged during the install though, then I’d have to take it out. Much easier to take the sensor out with the bearing out and if I put them back in, they would be easier to replace if I had to....obvs two new sensors are needed....ah well.... I wonder how much a garage would charge for this?

Be careful. Not all the kits are same. In my kit the silver flanges were for removing bearings and black for pressing the bearing in. I followed carelessly this video and used the black ones first. In the beginning I thought my bearings are just rusted in, so I applied a bit more force and I realized they are wrong only after the bearings on the shaft exploded under pressure.

Hi Robc509 the gen2 bearing removal tool that I have here has done front and rear on both 2wd a d 4wd T5 Transporters. Obviously there is the added step of needing to remove the driveshaft on the front axle or any of the 4wd versions. You can do them in place or release the hub and do this in the vice. I recently had to do this on a 6r Polo as the bearing would not pull in straight using the kit alone so I used the kit to hold the bearing correctly while I pressed it in in the press rather than using the draw bar, It was neater and qiicker.

I’ve been in the trade 20 years mostly on Vauxhall’s and now have moved to VAG stuff. I’ve used this tool for the first time last week but was changing the whole hub assembly and bearing so used it on the bench. It’s actually quite a good idea. Do they come out all the time of have you had any seized and had to resort to a press?. Great video 👍🏼
@mk2sixteen3 жыл бұрын
I have had two stuck ones both on nearside rear . Thats when you just have to bite the bullet and pull the radius arm and press it out using the cradle from this kit. It was only stuck as I could not exert enough pressure by hand. Both stuck ones popped straight out with 5 or 6 tons on it. Other than those 2 they have all been like you see here.
@mk2sixteen9 ай бұрын
I've not had to resort to a press as yet and yes I've had a few really fight me but the kits got it every time. I've seen bearings unseat soon after being fitted by others mainly because the clipped spring plate was not seated correctly due to a dirty rebate. This can be prevented with cleaning it thoroughly and just very gently prizing the clips ever so slightly out a bit further to ensure good solid location.

how shitty is this design? I don't know why VW Audi cheaped out and made these press on style bearings when they could have used the later model style bolt in hub/bearing designs - so there's no pressing/pulling....The laborsome part on this sucks.
@mk2sixteen6 жыл бұрын
TG 77 it's possibly due to them being the 2nd generation bearings not 3rd gen which are bolt in as you describe.and quite possibly were not available when this vehicle was designed before its release date in 2002/3. It's a poor design and a p.i.t.a. but at least it doesn't involve its removal in a press.
@tedg37216 жыл бұрын
mk2sixteen that's right I've done to these on my MK2 golf and I hated every second of it. It's a good thing that after 30 plus years VW Audi decided to step up their game and making more maintenance friendly replacement part like so many of the other auto manufacturers have done in the last 20 years.
@mk2sixteen6 жыл бұрын
TG 77 mk2 golf have traditional press in bearings that can't be done on the car. They are easy if you have the required skills.
@pitekfimix87824 жыл бұрын
Don't do that with press I did million times with hydraulic press for customers and this one time I did in my car bearing last 8000 km (FAG not cheap ) you have to support outher bearing shell not hub I did and have to do again with CV joint as bearing damaged CV joint as well lucky enough it was on parking lot speed 5km/ h
@mk2sixteen4 жыл бұрын
FAG are cheap replacements ! Getting the rear wheels correctly aligned prevents premature bearing failure. By using the hydraulic press you press on the incorrect surfaces of the bearing potentially causing misalignment issues. A genuine VW bearing tool is as near as damn it to this tool as to makes no difference.
@mk2sixteen4 жыл бұрын
If you press this in a press you cannot press the bearing face as the hub is in the way. This tool allows you to press on the bearing outer directly which cannot be done in a hydraulic shop press. Rear wheel alignment is absolutely critical once the bearing and hub have been replaced. To use a hydraulic shop press you must strip and remove the rear wishbone to do so. You could then choose to use this tool in conjunction with that press.
mk2sixteen I bought that and then they said it will only do the front wheel bearing so I cancel the order
