I have removed the T5 gearbox 8 times so i know the procedure by heart lol...... If you follow my procedure it will take you approximately 3 hours to remove gearbox and another 3 hours to put back ..... I mean not remove gearbox just place it aside on the subframe while you replace the clutch parts #0 disconnect battery #1 jack up the both sides and remove wheels.... #2 remove hub buts #3 remove either the ball joints or if u have trouble doing that just loosen the control arms #4 loosen top bolt of both Stabiliser links #5 remove CV joints #6 loosen waterbottle of radiator #7 loosen the big rubber pipe under the bottle and put it aside #8 disconnect the gear links by pushing in the clip and remove the whole part from the bracket #9 go underneath and remove the link bracket from the gearbox (13mm bolts) #10 remove the little bolt hold the power steering line and put that pipe over the horizontal stabiliser bar #11 remove the little dust plate (10mm bolt) #12 while your there remove the top gearbox bolts above the little plate (18mm socket) #13 while your also there slide a bit to the front and remove the 16mm gearbox bolt next to the right side CV joint and the 19mm bolt just above that one #14 remove the 2x 13mm bolts holding the front engin mount onto the subframe #15 support the engin oilsump with a jack and put another jack under the gearbox #16 remove starter and the plug connected to the gear selector #15 undo all the subframe bolts (21mm) after putting some bricks or something under the back part of the subframe #16 undo the gearbox mount (16mm) #17 undo the rest of the gearbox bolts underneath #18 slowly lower both jacks that supports the engin and gearbox as far as u can #19 remove gearbox and replace clutch parts ..... ( Use 2 of the gearbox bolts and place it on the teeth of the ring gear to make it easier for loosening the pressure plate bolts and flywheel bolts Now put everything back in reverse order 🥰

i was taught when replace suspension components to torque them up either simulating full load with a jack under the arm or my since go to method get them hand tight wheels on drop it on the floor or drop it on to drive up car ramps then do your final torque to spec . tightening well if that makes sence not sure if thats how you had said sometimes vocal instruction gets lost in translation with me was a pretty brisk clutch swap all in all

Hi Nath, love your vids and what your doing. How do you find the van drives after removing subframe? Ive been told to get wheel alignment done as i didnt use the kit before taking it off and to renew the subframe bolts. Would you agree or disagree? Keep up the good work 🤙
@YTDTETV7 ай бұрын
Hi Adam thank you mate appreciate that 🙏 so it is a good idea to have the tracking done as I didn’t use the tools either but I spent abit of time trying to line it up and the steering is ever so slightly turned to the left. The bolts on the subframe are really large so I don’t think it’s necessary to replace them 👍 hope that helps.

These vans have Dual Mass Flywheel and Self Adjusting Pressure plate...... Best to buy the whole kit with new flywheel to save you trouble of doing the job over and over again..... These clutch parts tend to all fail at the same time..... So dont just replace individual parts ..... After few hundred miles the other parts will also fail then u have to spend more money and another 6 to 8 hours doing the job..... And dont forget to reset the new pressure plate .... My new one was not reset so i had to do it myself.... Only takes about 3 to 5 minutes to reset with basic tools..... If you dont reset the pressure plate you wont get it into gears and gearbox has to come out AGAIN 😢 ...... And be carefull with bolts..... Using powertools will strip the threads and the holes.... Rather hand tight...... If you gonna use the old pressure plate bolts rather not torque it or overtighten.... Those thin Bolts will snap easy if its not new..... And use Loctite to be save
