I drive a 2016 Volkwagon Tiguan. I am not the original owner. The first year I had the car I did not have any issues. However, in less than a year, I have had my clockspring fail 3 times. 3 TIMES!! Thankfully, the part is under warranty and I paid nothing to have it fixed the first 2 times. This time, however, they are telling me that it is not only the clockspring but that there is a fault with my airbag assembly and it will cost $1,800.00 to fix. I find it quite a coincidence that there is now an issue with the airbag assembly when VW has had to remove and reinstall the airbag assembly twice before in order to fix the clockspring.

That sounds crazy I’ve never had to replace that many clock springs in quick succession on any car it sounds a little bit suspect to me

@@TheVWMechanic_official I know, right? I asked them if they are repairing the existing part or replacing it and they said they are replacing it with an upgraded part. They also just called me to let me know that because of the number of times I've had the same issue, they have "escalated" this repair so that it will be inspected by one of their engineers rather than one of their mechanics. I'm keeping my fingers and toes crossed that 3rd time is the charm because I really like my Tiguan. If it happens a 4th time, I'll have to trade it in and end up losing money. =(

@@TheVWMechanic_official Okay - I just got off the phone with VW. Their engineer advises that the switch/plate that controls the signals and sits behind the clockspring is faulty and the switch is pushing the plate into the clockspring. Don't know if I'm relaying the info properly, but that's my takeaway from the conversation. I reeeaallly hope this is the answer!

what would be your guess on this problem (mechanical MFI buttons on the steering wheel, new 2023. car only 2.000 km, skoda, new steeringwheel with 2 spokes): on 25 th December and today, steering wheel buttons only on the right side on the bottom (the ones to change left to right icons on MFI) dont respond after I shut down the car and start it again all fine - everything works So, only those 2 buttons on the bottom (all the other buttons on the right work - the one that can be scrolled works, as well as the one above it) on the left side of the steering wheels all buttons work if i turn the steering wheel from side to side it doesnt effect this problem ist it possible for new cars to have so much software glitches? because it is obviously not problem with buttons themselves, not with the clockspring, no light on the dash, and everything else works.... I dont know if it happened before because I rearly push those buttons (now when the glitch occured, I press them on a daily basis to see when it happens) on the car diagnosis in the official service can they track those glitches only buy giving them exact data, mileage and time when it happened, or the diagnosis work and show problems only if the problems occure while the diagnosis is connected to car? Hey buddy thanks for the message yeah it’s very possible that software glitches can appear but with it being so new I would take it back to the dealership and have the issue corrected under warranty

Hi, I've got this issue with my 2014 VW TIGUAN. I've had it to the garage & they've replaced the sqibb , however not all the steering wheel buttons are working & I've now got a warning for driver assistance button faulty which wasn't coming up before. Any idea as to what the issue may be? Thanks.

How would you go about getting the code to turn off the air bag light after replacing the air bag?

You would need some form of diagnostic scan tool

@@TheVWMechanic_official first of all thank you for the quick reply. Secondly is there a specific diagnostic machine needed or a specific software version? The reason I'm asking is I have paid someone to replace the air bag kit which they have done so, however when they plugged in their diagnostic machine (which they did say was a bit outdated) they was unable to remove the airbag light from the dashboard and said it was locked and that he reckons only a VW garage will be able to unlock it? Is this the case or do you think it was just down to his machine being outdated? Also just to add before he plugged in the diagnostic machine only the air bag light came up, now however it is also coming up saying seat belt tensioner deactivated, as well as the horn and steering wheel buttons are no longer working. Do you think it will be as simple as getting someone else with a more updated diagnostic machine to fix or do you think something else is at play?

I have the same problem but my steering wheel controls work, I wonder what could be the problem…

This fault nearly always takes the steering controls with it but I wouldn’t rule out this issue for your car as it could be just a hand full of broken wires or the control module itself could be faulty in your vehicle

Hey buddy I work in a dealership so we use Odis but it can be coded using vagcom and you code it to the car after fitting the new one

@TheVWMechanic1 Hi I have the same issue on a golf mk6 we replaced the steering wheel and the slipring (with secondhand parts all tested with guarantee) after i got it diagnosed at the dealer but it still doesn't work if we read out the computer every part seems to work but somehow the steering wheel is still unresponsive. What can we try now? My mate says we might need to reconfigure the computer, at the moment its reading out not configured and unknown. So like in your video do we need to code it back in my mate did some of it but he doesn't have an official VW computer he is qualified just doesn't have all the VW gear.

@beelikehoney yep if it’s been replaced and not coded in it won’t work correctly you’ll probably have engine lights on and all sorts without it being coded
