I know EXACTLY what you mean!!! If you attach two alligator multimeter clips to the terminals and are long enough to poke out of the front seat you can access alot of other problems. My new battery is dead after 2 weeks. So, either a bad battery, bad alternator/voltage regulator, or some component is drawing power when I turn it off.

Cheers mate. Elderly neighbours Touareg battery died, had no idea how to get to it. My Defender has it under the seat, but had no idea the VW was the same. Nice and clear.

Finally, someone who shows it done the right way. You don't have to touch that front trim piece at all btw. Just get a pry tool under the floor pieces, and they will pop right out. A tire spoon, or cat claw works perfectly.

It saddens me to think somebody got paid to design this idiotic battery placement. We have a 2010, V6 diesel AWD and it has been a nightmare with all its crazy design bugs! (NOT features!!!) Thanks for posting this. I need it as "suddenly" the imobiliser has decided to take a dump, then the front location sensors quit just just after the rear hatch (whole door) has decided it will not open! Window does... THEN the battery went to OVolts/0% charge, so I had to "bring it back" using my motorcycle tender maintainer first, then a "3-6A" trickle charger over 3 days! It's now 12.3V, 100% charged. This Toe-Rag is becoming a nightmare, that is nickel and diming us into the poor house. It has had all recommended maintenance at the dealer and the VW fuel system mods with warranty, plus it only has 114K miles. Any ideas please?

I threw away my brackets, my cover, everything, because I have to go to my battery every single week. If you are testing your alternator, parasite amp usage, or just a bad battery, you need easy access to it. I am attaching two alligator clips to both terminals that are long enough to poke out of the front seat so that I can easily attach them to a multimeter.

Why is that seat bolt so rusted??? Does the battery not vent to the outside? No other sign of water intrusion.

Bolt is rusted from Previous owners spilling drinks. there were stains on the carpet there originally, I cleaned since. The battery vents from the vent tube shown in the video it goes out the bottom of the car

In fairness, the battery vent design is inadequate for this configuration. That's why the negative terminal is so commonly corroded on them can't count how many of those negative terminals I've replaced on them because of this. The battery just bakes under there in hot climates. Especially if the car lives outside. 🤷‍♂️
