VW Transporter T4 Headlight Replacement: Removal and Refit Full Guide

In this video, I show you how to remove and refit your VW T4 headlights. We are replacing the original 20-year-old headlights with brand new pattern parts. We are also fitting OSRAM Night Breaker H4 headlight bulb upgrades.

Replacing the headlights requires you to remove the front grill and the lower metal trim panel from below the headlights. You will need an 8mm socket to remove the bolts holding the headlights in place. If you are changing the bulbs remember to make sure you don't touch the glass part of the bulb!

Breathtaking DEPO quality! You should seal the headlights and indicators with body sealant as a precaution.

Was wondering whether to get the original Saturnas fog/driving lamps and tried the DEPO ones instead at a third of the price because of the plastic baseplate. They're really nice quality and put a nice beam pattern out. Had them a couple o years now...

I had same problem with a rear fog light conversion filled pin down a bit naughty but still worked.

I think I might end up doing that. I looked into this and orange bulbs should all have offset pins so now I’m wondering if this van originally had orange lenses and clear bulbs 🤔

@@T4Family the headlamp bulbs you changed out are they any better ,the lighting on my t4 is pretty poor ,thinking of using some auxiliary spots.

These headlights are exactly like the originals so there isn’t much of a difference. Upgrading the bulbs and wiring loom definitely helps though, I did a video last week which explains how the original wiring deteriorates over time. kzbin.info/www/bejne/nnbInZSGpK6VY9E

Don’t force the bulbs if they don’t fit, I’ve had to replace the bulb holder on mine coz someone previously put wrong bulbs in.

My van is like effing Ringstone Round - if I lose a bolt it'll never be found. I can't source another headlight retaining screw (M8 hex self-tapping flanged 20mm body bolt) anywhere!

Awful. Why do people set out to do tutorial videos when they have not set objectives, not practiced the job in advance, not allowed enough time, and chosen some non useful camera angles. For information the headlight plastic adjusters on older vehicles deteriorate and break. Replacements are available on eBay. It is easier to attach indicator and headlight assembly before fitting to vehicle. This had been learned by the time it came to fitting the o/s light assembly. Final professional headlight alignment essential.
