vw type 1 mileage & mpg vlog ignitor i and ii timing variance

how accurate is your electronic ignition? at idle my distributor is quite accurate in that each individual spark overlays the same timing mark. collectively the sparks are not overlaid at the same timing mark. this isn't scatter, it's variance that originates with the ignition trigger wheel. to optimize performance, you need to get rid of variance.

haha. no, he's out of my league but then again we aren't focused on the same things. one of the best things i ever heard him say in one of his vids was that valve springs don't apply pressure but rather force. can i get an amen! i thought that this guy must be more than just a mechanic and he in fact has an engineering degree as do i. his entire life has been to use it for racing. i got into computers and abandoned engineering except as a hobby. it is the computer aspect of what i do that separates my vids from vizard's. well, that and that i don't care about venturing past 5k rpm. if you don't mind my asking, what sort of vw brings you to the channel?

@@redshirt-scotty '70 Transporter. Stock 1600 SP I like your mpg videos, I'm not to interested in past 5k rpm either. I would like to do some arduino projects on my van but there some nuts I just can't crack.

@@redshirt-scotty have you seen the Speeduino ? I looks like you can run your car with an arduino so probably a Pi would work too. I think you have the flywheel pick-up on your car? Maybe you could trigger your ignition off that? Seems like that would be a huge project though.

@@patrickmclaughlin6013 haven't seen speeduino. will check it out. no flywheel pickup for me - time and budget again. will probably try the cb black box at some point.

Amazing depth of research there Scotty ! Especially the camera 900 fps trick. Question: Do you think .. with the new strobe lights, with their adjustable digital re-zero'ing degree offset ... by moving the pick-up .. to the different cylinder wires .. that a person could pick-up the different cylinder firing variances ? Eg .. putting the strobe trigger on cylinder #3's lead ... recording it's exact firing time, and progress through all the leads .. that way, a person should be also able to pickup the donut's variances using that method ? nothing wrong with using that kind of timing light just don't use the adjustment mechanism for a test like this. screws up the accuracy. sure you can bounce the inductive pickup from wire to wire. i did that when recording for all those timing vids that i've got. btw, working on the breathing vid but need a part. thought i had one in my boxes but nope. maybe late next week.
