Just gave my 6n2 Polo GTI a full service this weekend, plus a gearbox oil change and added a magnetic drain plug. I also like to do a bit of rust prevention with some lanoguard and wax oil while under the car for good measure.

Great content. As an up Gti owner can I ask, When are you going to do an update on the suspension setup? Its the only thing that lets this car down and keep looking forward to an informative video for a necessary fix. Keep them coming.

I'm with you on that the DIY. Recently bought a 72 plate gti polo and pumped the oil out and it filled the 5litre can to the top and the 1 litre to the top as well, clearly over 6litres in a 5.7 litre capacity engine.

The spark plug piece was a bit too quick but overall nice work. I wonder how to change the gear oil. What VW part number that is and where to find the plugs for filling and drain? Some say you could fill the oil from above thru a long hose but I assume it is somewhere below the car. Would be fantastic if you could reply in the comment section before shooting a video.

2 year service plan all the way - got mine on a Black Friday deal and pay £15.50 per month - just had my year 4 service on my Golf 7.5 GTi which included the spark plugs and cabin filter on top of the oil & filter - works out to be around £180 per service! can't see how VW make any money on that.

On the other side of the DIY service coin (and with yourself as a trade dealer) with a niche car like the UP GTi, how much would you knock off a trade value because it no longer has a main dealer or indie documented service history? An owners handwritten notes in a service book are just not the same as a dealer stamp and itemized invoice. Surely any trader will capitalize on this and low-ball, or simply decline if their pool of buyers are fussy?
@hamiltonr

Great video and you're right, it's a good way to save money and pretty quick to do yourself - do the same on my ST but take it to the local indie yearly for a pre-MOT check and oil service. Coincidentally, just did the same service on my fiancée's '07 Ignis and it looked like the the plugs hadn't been done in its 16 year lifetime and 67k miles 😳 Easier than her previous Jazz and it's 8 spark plugs though(!)

My Beats Up TSi had its 5-year service this summer and VW insisted that the cam belt be changed - I assume they’d say the same for the GTi. That brought the service cost to just over £1,000, which was a big bill for a little car. A cam belt change is well beyond my capabilities!
@volkswizard
@volkswizard Жыл бұрын
It's good it's been done but just recently VW renounced the 5 year cambelt rule in UK which didn't apply in other EU countries. This is particularly pertinent to Ups as they don't do a lot of miles and their value can be not far off the cost of a big service with belt. I'll do a DIY on it next year as it doesn't look to bad
@mx5mad
@mx5mad Жыл бұрын
I didn't know that they had recently changed this. Checking VW UK's Cam belt FAQ it now only mentions mileage, not age. A bit annoying to have paid that much but as you say, at least it's done. @@volkswizard

New subscriber, YT gave me your channel as a recommendation. Watched the one initially about the Porsche with the dodgy paint and history then swatch the one where you collected your new toy from Saxon. Lovely car. The red really suits it. Now watching this one about an UP GTIi service. I’d love to give it a go on an old banger as practice but I think I’d fall at the first hurdle using the trolly jack (I’d have to buy one first anyway) as I’d probably put it in the wrong place and damage the sill. Keep uploading the videos. I spend hours on YT and learn so much so yours means I now need to spend even more time on it.

Brilliant episode again love your up Gti lovely little cars :) it’s so nice to service your own car very satisfying. Doing the suspension sounds a good idea to improve handling and ride. I love the way the car looks. Always enjoyed your Up! GTI content. We’ll miss our little red chariot when our Polo GTI Edition 25 arrives. Did I spot a bonnet insulation pad and some bonnet seals strips? Couldn’t see if there was a central seal strip though. The seals help reduce the amount of surface spray that gets into the top of the engine bay.
@volkswizard
@volkswizard Жыл бұрын
That MRP! It's got a strip on slam panel and the pads, I didn't see anything else on the bonnet but I wasn't looking TBH. I remember when this started to be a thing, I did wonder if they were removed to aid cooling as it runs hotter than lesser models.

A great content. The little Up GTI is looking great. I think I have only had one set of plugs on my MkV GTI since new. The car was bought new in late 2008. It's done just over 93,000 kms. 120 kms per week is all it does. Cheers Andrew.

Worth adding that with alloy heads best change plugs on a cold engine to reduce the chances of stripping threads. Certainly do not grease the threads as that could lead to overtightening but no harm greasing the protective rings at the top of the threads.

Great video on the Up Andrew.👍 A quick question if you don't mind.... Did you manage to sort out the suspension knock on the Club Sport? I have a similar issue with my Cupra Ateca. It's going in next week to have the top mounts and bearings replaced Hoping it's not the DCC shocks.
@volkswizard

Afraid not, even got driven around to listen to it and got nowhere. Very annoying. Definitely not DCC on mine so do them last. I’ll make a video about it if I do or don’t sort it first as there are loads of mk7 owners out there who may know. It’s unusual though - no plans to sell but if I wanted to I couldn’t as it is now it’s that bad. Hope yours is sorted more easily

@volkswizard
@volkswizard Жыл бұрын
Thanks as ever Darren. Unfortunately if you tell it how it is, ‘some’ manufacturers don’t necessarily like that and prefer to engage with opinionless influencers. In some ways you can’t blame them as they get less negative coverage for their weak products and people still watch influencer guff even though they learn nothing or at least not enough to make informed buying decisions. It’s up to the audience to distinguish credible reporting with misleading influencing or only the latter will be all you will get. Cupra UK, and VW UK are all guilty of this in last few years and when you look at the shonky products they’ve released recently it’s pretty obvious why.
