An alternative to using spray adhesive is industrial strength Velcro...that way you can reposition the carpet during installation and remove it if you ever need to get to the structure underneath it. That's how I installed my TMI kit a few years back and it's holding up great (pun intended)

The e brake boot goes under the carpet. Lol. In 25 years I’ve never glued the main carpet down completely because if someone wants to run speakers or the main brake line goes bad or the e brake boot goes bad, or you decide later you want to put in a new harness. You’ll have to pull the carpet back up and sometimes the glue won’t let loose and it will ruin the carpet and you’ll have to buy another kit. I’ve seen some carpet kits were the shifter bolts will be under the carpet so you have to pull the carpet up and over to get to the bolts. Im surprised you didn’t put more padding on the floor.

Thank you all, very much, this is one of the best, down to earth, easy to follow, clearly described , DIY videos on doing the interior of an old school beetle that I have seen in a LOOOOOOOOONG time. Clear, easy, you didn't make it sound like one needed an Astrophysicist degree to be able to do,, just got in and did it!! Great stuff !!, This will be one of those I will return to when I start doing my 72.

I'm starting a body off resto to my 65 bug. I found this video so helpful because you guys do detail stuff and and don't make it look Soo intimidating. My only problem is you guys are a " crew " working together in your videos which makes it much easier. Living in Western NC the hobby isn't as popular so harder to get the help. Anyway, you guys are so motivating to us DYI VW guys out here. I will watch your video many times and then go for it. Isn't being a VW guy a weird thing? Once you get bitten, your into it for life. It's a CULT. But a peaceful one. Carry on men.
@Misunderstoodboygenius3 жыл бұрын
The Dynamat is for sound deadening like damping a drum head. The padding is for sound insulation. Two different functions. Much much quieter with both installed.
@VWLifeVW3 жыл бұрын
ah okay
@Misunderstoodboygenius3 жыл бұрын
@@VWLifeVW I just realized the autocorrect in there… dynamat. But yeah, it keeps the metal from “ringing” like a bell. So it does deaden the sound. But it doesn’t block sound waves that pass through, that’s what the insulation does which is why VW had it thick in the back. It insulates the interior from the engine noise. Now if you want to hear that it’s great to leave off. I drive my Beetle 60 miles at a time and have audiobooks on so I have the insulation. 😆
@wolz256 Жыл бұрын
Yes, dynamat does not need to be on every square inch of a panel. Which is good. Because it's expensive and tedious to try and do that.

If you're doing this alone get yourself some of those small, super strong neodymium magnets to hold the carpet piece in place, flip one half of the piece over, spray it with adhesive and press it in place. Then you can flip the other half over and spray and press that half too.

It’s amazing how a car of worst design could succeed so well. All the cars of today have every thing in the front and liquid cooled engines. Altho freezing cold in the winter the beetle in Montreal winter got thru the snow. most popular small car due to weight on back driven wheels. I know I had a 1958.

Yes, Rattle Trap is another brand of sound deadening like Dyna-Mat. The knob to the right of the shifter is the heater knob, twist it and it pulls open the heat exchanger flaps, and magically, heat!

The TMI people make good stuff. Great idea on using a lighter on the edges or when cutting holes to prevent the fibers from coming apart. Getting that emergency brake rubber cover on and inside that hole in the carpet in that area is a real b$tch...🤣😂
@dubworldvwadventures3 жыл бұрын
What’s sad is that many of these kits are not cut properly so they don’t fit right. It’s hard to find a less expensive quality kit. Many don’t even have the heater openings. Also, the wound binding edge ends up coming apart. Do your research before buying. If you can afford the crazy priced German square weave, buy it!
