I can remember my Dad teaching me how to pack wheel bearings on my 56 Chevy. He taught me to "roll" the grease into the bearings like you. Great video

Awesome man! I follow the same philosophy on how much grease to use.

The old final check method on the inside nut tightness was tight enough so you could still push the slot washer back and forth a little with a big flat blade screw driver and moderate force.

Could you show how to get a wheel drum cap off. I have a set I put on my Empi disk brake kit that wen’t on really hard, and I’m not looking forward to removing them when it comes time to? I’m a big fan of your videos ( seen them all) and looking forward to more. I’m the prod owner of a fleet of V dubs ( 62-SC, 67 Bug, and a 73 high top BW) and would like to visit your group some day.
@VWLifeVW3 жыл бұрын
thanks, that's a fleet! we band on them with a hammer and a channel lock. Grab it with the channel locks and start hitting it around all the sides and try getting it off.

What could happen if the first nut is on fairly tight? Everything appears to still spin fine but it's a bit tighter than your half-lug turn.. Love the channel y'all! Thanks!

Should be fine as long as the drum is turning

@@VWLifeVW Cool thanks! It's turning great, in fact i had to do it because I had outsourced full brake rebuild (64 bus, it was time :) and it was squeaking and pulling right, in the end they hadn't tuned it. I could have probably added more grease but it's all back together now so it'll be fine for a while. Thanks again, great videos!!

to really pack a bearing, get a big ol' (Texas term) glob of grease in your palm, and with the other hand, hold the bearing face down and smush it down into the grease in the center of yer palm, pulling it to the outside base of palm. it'll force that grease between the rollers and fill all the voids. Y'all take care.
