Hey Steve. Love the look of the OG ! I really appreciate your videos with Mr. Jones. I like the way you take the time to explain what you are doing and don't just "fluff" over it all. I'm still working on my 1st 68 442, hoping to start on my W-30's. Keep up the great work !!!

Hey My Man!!!! Of course I remember you! I will never ever forget that day. Please take a look at our video...... "My First Car" - We show you seeing the car for the first time since I bought it in '88.! What a great experience. Mr. B. Here ! 🍩☕️👀😎👍. Hope your brother is doing well ? Very cool wheels , I love look of the Keystone’s as well ! Was that big John’s El Camino ? If so looks great . Nice job on the frame! 🍸🍸👀😎👍

Good morning Mr. B Joe is doing well, busy guy for sure. Yeah man, I'm really happy with the wheel / tire combo. It is the look that the car had for several years in the 70's. Yeah that El Camino is John's car. We had a great day that day. Thanks for the compliment. A ton of work as usual but another piece of the puzzle saved. -steve

40ish years ago I pulled the body on my 68 442 holiday coupe, stripped the chassis and suspension parts, phosphor etched, primed, and painted with a high quality urethane+catalyst automotive paint. (One step below Imron is what I was told at the time.). It's been in storage (unheated garage) for almost all of those 40+ years. I got under it for the first time in a long time today and discovered that that expensive paint has not withstood the test of time. It's peeling in many places and there's surface rust where it has peeled. More recently, on my other car, a 68 Cutlass convertible, I stripped the chassis and suspension, phosphor etched and used POR15 on the chassis, and powder coated all the suspension parts. (I know of people who powder coat the chassis but I couldn't find anyone near me with a big enough oven.) Right now I'm planning to do the 442 again, this time with POR15 and powder coat, just like the convertible. I might live to see them in 25 years, but I definitely won't live to see them in another 40 years.

Good afternoon and Thank You so much for sharing this story. While one of our projects and videos shows the use of Eastwood Chassis paint,I can tell you that on this frame and the frame on my daughters '69 Cutlass Conv. I simply used Rustoleum "Professional " Red primer and Semi-Gloss black. Speaking from the experience on my daughters car (we call it Mary, look for those videos on our channel from 2 years ago) The paint has held up very well. We painted it in April of 2020 and after these 4 years and almost 2000 miles driven, it looks like we just painted it. Please keep us posted on how things go for you. we'd love to see some pictures of your projects. -steve

A 225/70-14 is close in size to a G70-14. Part of the scoop issue might be because of the wheel backspacing; turn the wheels and check for clearance. Being you have front drum brakes some SSI's would look really nice on the car.
@theautorefinery2 ай бұрын
Good morning, yes absolutely part of the issue was the back spacing. The swap to 215/70's in the front fixed the problem perfectly. I have some SSI's here too but was trying to get away from the "inboard" look of a stock wheel. I had decided on either these style wheel or AR 200S (daisy) to provide the old "day 2" kind of look. Thanks for watching and for playing along. I like that you pay close attention to the details too. -steve

Those hardtop frames are so flimsy, and so much more susceptible to rot being wide open to the elements compared to the boxed frames. Once again, nice work. New/old wheels look good too. But.... why not have that frame powder coated. I did mine 20 years ago and it still looks fresh.
@theautorefinery2 ай бұрын
Good morning and Thank You for taking the time to watch. Funny how flimsy these things do feel when they're completely empty isn't it? We never really even considered powder coating honestly, cost and availability have kept it in the far back of our minds at best. We appreciate your compliments and thank you again for playing along. -steve

Hey Stevo Just watched a Video of another historian that I subscribe to. Watch about 50% of his videos. I don't post other vids in people's streams but thought you might Very well like this one. Maybe being the third time I've done this in about a thousand vids I've watched. Both you & I aren't into drag racing & GM didn't sponsor racing teams after 1963 but they made an exception in '69 with the W-31s. Let me know you might have known this but... I won't mind if you tell me "to go flag a handcar" as my old man used to tell me LOL kzbin.info/www/bejne/oJmrqIOldrJna7s

Hey Mr Green. I thank you for this but......yes I have watched that video and even left him a comment. I wish you only knew how much I AM into drag racing. I have been studying vintage Olds Drag cars for many years I have a packed envelope full of time slips that I've gotten with my car over the years from Lebanon Valley and Englishtown . ( the class winner sticker from there in my window was earned not bought - haha) I can't thank you enough for thinking of me though. Very cool stuff for sure. -steve

@@theautorefinery HaHa I more into road course racing though I'm thinking about Test N tune if I ever get my 351 Foxbody "in gear" I'm so old I remember watching The Smother Brothers show. You racing with the Pontiac?
@theautorefinery2 ай бұрын
@@lloydgreen4091 WOW You ARE Old! hahha just kidding. That show was well before my time (born in '73) We have raced the pontiac with a couple different engine combos but 99% of my drag racing has been with my W-31. mostly at some BOP events, club rental days, and even Joe Mondello sponsored Olds performance events at Englishtown. - Did pretty well that day
