Mozart: "Father, I think I'll just slip in a little fugue here at the end." Mozart (father): "Wait... You can write them that quickly? Already?" Mozart: "Why yes, Father. It's quite simple, really. One can _learn_ it."

Mozart: ‘…and that’s exactly what Michael Haydn did’. Mozart modelled his Te Deum K141 (1769) almost exactly on that of his Salzburg colleague Michael Haydn’s setting of 1760.

Uncorrect. The 3rd Mov. is at 3:27 and the one at 5:18 is the final fugue.

@@amedeoinnocenti7541 Nope, the final fugue is the 3rd Mvt. The slow passage after the 1st Mvt was just a small gap, after which it progresses into Allegro. You can check out Mozart's Handwritten score of the Te Deum if you don't believe me

Ætérna fac cum sanctis tuis in glória numerári. [added later, mainly from Psalm verses:] Salvum fac pópulum tuum, Dómine, et bénedic hæreditáti tuæ. Et rege eos, et extólle illos usque in ætérnum. Per síngulos dies benedícimus te. Et laudámus nomen tuum in sǽculum, et in sǽculum sǽculi. Dignáre, Dómine, die isto sine peccáto nos custodíre. Miserére nostri, Dómine, miserére nostri. Fiat misericórdia tua, Dómine, super nos, quemádmodum sperávimus in te. In te, Dómine, sperávi: non confúndar in ætérnum.

This does raise the question of whether Mozart was divinely inspired when he wrote all those letters...
@elaineblackhurst1509
@elaineblackhurst1509 11 ай бұрын
The inspiration is actually mostly Michael Haydn’s Te Deum setting of 1760 on which Mozart almost exactly modelled his Te Deum K141 in 1769. Hyperbole such as ‘…divinely inspired Mozart’ really is not helpful, unless Michael Haydn is to be deified.

@@nottinghillad That’s because they are two different composers, though they do both share some common Salzburg features; my point however remains, that the young Mozart clearly knew Michael Haydn’s setting when writing his own.

That is my biggest criticism of polyphony, it is a beautiful form of classical music and great for concert, however I don't think it should be used in the Liturgy because it does not derive itself from antiquity like chant does - and it also doesn't encourage correct pronunciation of the Latin (or other ancient language depending of the rite).

I have no such objection myself. Let beautiful sacred music be sung! Of course people of different first languages will pronounce the Latin a little differently from one another. What matters is the beauty of the music, and the piety which it inspires.

Matheus Araujo Matos It is a great shame that out of its cultural budget, the EU could not have found the funds to promote a standardised but more importantly, correct pronunciation of Latin across the continent. Many of the current national pronunciations are jarring and unpleasant elsewhere (for example German pronunciation to English speakers, and ‘English’ - actually Italanised English - pronunciation to German speakers), and are often based more on a mixture of ignorance and tradition, rather than knowledge and understanding.
@isabellejlv4668
@isabellejlv4668 Жыл бұрын
