W Cape Floods | 14 000 informal structures impacted by flooding, wind damage in the Cape Metro

Cape Town Disaster Management says 14 000 informal structures have been impacted by flooding and wind damage in the Cape Metro.
These include areas in Khayelitsha, Lwandle, Gugulethu and Tafelsig, among others.

There is a guy who came from the Eastern Cape build a shack in Khayalitsha and a shack in Stellenbosch where he works he stays there for the week and return over the weekend

@@jameskibby61 The provincial government had several spats with people who invaded municipal property illegally and refused to be moved to areas that the COCT allocated to them. The majorly of these people, who have raised shacks all over Cape Town, was moved in from other provinces by the ANC, in their bid to regain power in the Western Cape. The COCT never would have located properties in marsh lands, as they would have been aware of the repercussions thereof annually. The annual occurrences are fires during summer time, in order to get S. A. ID. documents for illegal immigrants, and waterflooding during winter rains to get new clothes and bedding. NO government would subject themselves to these atrocities.

What needs to happen is for these people to be allocated a small plot of land that must be paid for. Once they PAY for it,the land they bought will have a monetary value. From there they know it is a zoned land with a value that they own and have a title too. Housing is so darn expensive....but that we all already know and must deal with. Get them out of the low lying lands

It's easy to say the stormwater drains don't work, but it's not that simple. When the water table reaches the surface, no drains will work. That water has to be pumped out - but where to?

I teally feel for these people, honestly I do... but, you decided to put up your house/shack near a wetland. Land that was clearly not developed for this exact reason gets occupied by people then they complain that the city isn't helping them... it might be time to move the informal settlement elsewhere, you were clearly never ment to be there. I hope that you someone will assist this community, pointing fingers won't save lives in this situation. But to the people living there, you need to move...

This is not an issue that can be minimised with victim - blaming. Fact is, the people are settled there and City of Cape Town remains unresponsive to the plight for suitable land. After so many years, it's deliberate. Keep the masses poor, for cheap labour and convenient votes.

Note: Informal settlements... People in the WC who get permission and build adequate houses are not suffering from the floods or weather, the people who come from other provinces to build a shack on unsuitable land with 0 permission are not the responsibility of the DA... Especially when those people throw their rubbish everywhere which blocks any drainage.
