Even still, as long as there is at least 1 person who thinks differently, not everyone can be tossed into the same category. Fact of the matter is, everyone is different. And to be fair, my friends from France are nothing like the stereotypes. For the first snack, we have similar things in America (well at least in California, where I'm from, so I'll just preface that California has a large Japanese and Asian population so we might be a bit unusual). "Veggie straws" are pretty popular here, they're also mostly potato-based with tomato, spinach, carrot, or other vegetables mixed in. I prefer them over potato chips because they tend to be less salty and more flavorful. I actually grew up with Koala March, I'd snag some from one of my best friends when we were little and she had them in her lunchbox. She was half Japanese. They have it in our regular grocery store here as well as the Asian markets and any sort of international food store. I tried them again as an adult and I think hindsight was a bit kind to them. Not gross but sweeter than the kind of snack I would generally choose now. I loooove Matcha-flavored anything so I wish they were easier to find here. Mostly I have to get my fix with matcha lattes at Starbucks. Those looked like matcha oreos! Though I have to say I'm always puzzled when people describe it as bitter, since to me it's a bit powdery-floral or grassy tasting, like the smell of freshly cut grass. ...avocado crackers? Uhhh. I think I'll just go for the real thing on cheese crackers. Brie crackers? Same idea. Totally agree with what Mimei said. Chocolate cookie/biscuits like those are a bit ubiquitous so I don't know that it would make much of a souvenir. Maybe I'm old-fashioned but I think that souvenirs should really reflect some unique quality of the place they are from. I also really liked Mathieu's input, and I think he's right. You eat with your eyes and since konbini food isn't exactly limited in selection it's worth finding a product that pleases all the senses. Particularly in the case of a gift, it should be a bit of a "step up" from what one would by themself, though that doesn't necessarily mean spending more money. Something more adventurous, unique, or having at least the appearance of being higher quality make a big difference. Ahem. Anyway, I think for at least my purposes I would definitely grab some snacks that have flavors to them that aren't really found elsewhere. Matcha, lychee, ebi, nori, sakura. Those kinds of things would come to mind. Plus all the seasonal products! I wish that sort of thing was more common here, it's a really exciting way to change things up.

That went as expected. XD I'm in France atm and they loooove their food. Food is a huge part of the culture and shops even close for two hours for lunch. So you may think he's being picky, but I think he's just used to the very high quality of food you get from France.
@fengy56299 жыл бұрын
that's true. i also feel that japanese people might be less likely to complain about something like that. besides, these two countries have very different cultural tastes altogether, so i don't understand why people seem to be angry that a frenchman would dislike these particular items, especially considering they're all quite cheap in the first place.

You don't get high quality in france, they eat mostly shit because that's all they can afford France is a fucking disaster, it stinks, people stinks, everybody is poor, it is unsafe as fuck, the food sucks unless you like meat and i don't , the cities are dirty, the people are dirty, they dress like shit, they are fucking uneducated and know nothing outside their own country , and they are superior as fuck when they have absolutely nothing to feel superior about . And in bed they suck , i mean the smell alone is a fucking turn off and even if you pass the stench and the date at a the mc donald because that's all they can afford , then you still have to put up with the attitude and the ego. And we have different cultural background each other so it's natural we have a different standard depending on people. So please stop saying bad to him. But please let me tell one thing, I love コアラのマーチ so bad~~~~. Yay!!

It's was really funny ! The french (i'm french too) seems just so complicated but that's why i laugh a lot during this video and everyone has is own taste so we can't blame it for having a different one.
I'd probably be like Mathieu with low scores all around, lol. Except that chocolate koala one (which I imagine is basically Hello Panda) and chocolate biscuits. I like that 0 though, lol.
@angel101heartsJB10 жыл бұрын
It's the same thing as Hello Panda, me and my friend LOVE them and sometimes we're able to find the Koala ones. I'm so glad these are common in the US.
@XCerykX10 жыл бұрын
angel101heartsJB I can find Hello Panda in my local Kroger's oddly enough... And I live an hour and a half from the nearest major town where you'd normally find that stuff. It's very strange, but I'm not complaining (except when they sell out and they're sell out a lot, which is why I don't understand why they don't get rid of that Pocky garbage that I've never once seen sell out like the other 3 Japanese candies they carry. No one likes Pocky in America, stop selling it.)
@angel101heartsJB10 жыл бұрын
Ceryk I like Pocky, but I love Hello Panda's more. I have a Super Target 10 minutes from me and in the dollar section they always have the Koala ones. I also have World Market and those are my places to go for Hello Panda's, but very little variety for Japanese candies and other food. I was finally able to find mochi in World Market. But I moved recently for college and there's a Asian market near by.
@syphonkusanagi10 жыл бұрын
I really like Koala March. We can get them in our Japanese section at our supermarket here in the middle of the US, and there is a market an hour away called Asian Market, that luckily I can get a lot of different Japanese snacks. I love getting different things and letting others try them.
@syphonkusanagi10 жыл бұрын
OMG, I saw the end of the video, and it mentioned Milky, and now I want some Milkys. Guess I get to go to Asian Market this weekend, lol!
As girls said if the french guy expected more expensive one, you need to bring something like Wagashi. It is visually looked so artistic that is exactly what he required:) Anyway in my opinion, I'd like to recommend him "Marusei Butter Sandwich by Rokkatei". It is actually sweet biscuits made in Hokkaido, sandwiching rich butter cream, white chocolate and also lots of raisins. Soo creamy and gorgeous taste, it can be a souvenir for any places.
@beaglebutter10 жыл бұрын
I found it really interesting how in France appearance is that important! Even a good food can be bad if it's unattractive apparently. France seems to take it's food very seriously! Makes me wonder how French snacks are. I bet they're super disappointed with American snacks :x
@FFDsims10 жыл бұрын
Nope! Our snacks are pretty normal x)
@camsimed10 жыл бұрын
It's not the problem here, it's just because the package lies about the appearance, in France if you lie about a product (food or another thing ) a most of people will hate this product.

wow that french guy has the actual heavy french accent when speaking English! I've never heard it before and thought it was just a stereotype (reminded me of Francis and chef haha XD ) i think some comments don't realize they are rating the snack not for how good it tastes, but how willing you are to give it to friends and family as a souvenir/ omiage (obligatory gift you bring home after a trip to another country) i have laid-back friends so if i would give them omiage from the snacks in the video, i'd probably stay away from koala march since it is sold here in the original japanese packaging (i'm in saudi arabia). i would probably go with the first snack (the green pea one) and the matcha cream biscuit just because green pea and matcha are unusual flavors and the package has japanese text on it. i would also consider takenoko (the biscuit with mushroom chocolate shape) just because the packaging is cute ^^ i think it should have been among the snacks in the survey. this was a great video, i hope you can participate in tasting videos like these again, and it was a good balance to have people who love the products and people who will disagree, it makes it honest and actually helps the companies to consider different opinions on their products.
