W.W.C.O.G, The Good, the BAD & the Ugly

This video is about a church that basically doesn’t exist anymore which was the World Wide Church of God. The church drastically changed its ideology and also its name since 1995.

I was aware of this very odd "religion" in the mid 60's. Had a neighbor in Pasadena California who attended this cult. They were nice people, but very uptight. Their children hardly ever could leave the house, they didn't have any toys, parents so very strict. It was very sad to watch.

The headquarters was in Pasadena California. The strict ultra rigidness (sp?) continued from the church and into many of the family’s and homes. There is at least one Facebook forum for former members to talk about things and sort through their traumas of living in such a strict church/cult.

@@MustangsTrainsMowers I felt so sorry for the children. They had a daughter of my age. She would see the toys and other things I had she had much of nothing. Nothing mattered except , Mr. Armstrong. Her mother had health problems, and could NOT go to a doctor. I did not even realize at the time, that it was a cult.

The church years later loosened up a little bit about seeing Doctors or not, telling people that it’s up to them if they want to see a Doctor for whatever or go to a hospital. What would really be wreckless would be families with a child that’s bipolar and needs to be on medication to stabilize them. The last woman I fell in love with has a very strong version of bipolar and if she is off of her medication long enough she doesn’t know who she is or what her name is. I got involved in the past when she got off of her medication and her parents had to jump in pick up the pieces.

Herbert Armstrong taught that going to the doctor was a matter of personal faith . As for a child not having toys , I don't recall hearing anything about not having toys . Children are not old enough to make the decision to follow Jesus ( Who's Head is the Father ) . Also , as far as I understand , for the same reason , children were not required to go without food on the Day of Atonement . I think that such things are a matter of faith , or in such cases , misunderstanding .

I just came across your video, not sure if you are still around. Thank you for sharing your story. I too was in the WWCG. In fact my mom started following HWA's teachings before I was born. There wasn't any churches close to where we lived. It wasn't until I was about 5 when we moved (after my dad left) We moved into government projects so we be able to afford a place to live. When we moved a couple ministers came to our home. Told us about a church that had started about 30 miles from our town. The ministers invited my mom, my brother and myself to start attending the church. Now we did have ministers to coming to our house way before we moved. (Even before I was born.) So we began going to the church, and went until a few years before they changed the churches name. During that I went to a "splinter church". It wasn't like the WWCG. It was not as controlling. Anyway that is just part of my story. Of course shortened a whole lot. Hope you are feeling much better these days. God bless and continue to move forward and learning everything you can about your relationship Jesus/God, life, love, kindness, joy! Treating others as they need to be treated. We are all different in so many ways and need to be loved in different ways. Ok imma stop now ... I'm winded too at times. 🦋

I’m doing fine now. I started on a new medicine for Lyme disease in November 2020 and I’m now working two jobs totaling almost 60 hours a week. I’m feeling a lot better than I was in 2017 when I was quite sick.

I just don't understand some people stating that the WCG was controlling? The WCG taught the truth of the scriptures. It's everyone's choice whether to obey God, and His written word, or go Satan's way of doing your own thing. .. Romans 6:16 "Know ye not, that to whom ye yield yourselves servants to obey, his servants ye are to whom ye obey; whether of sin unto death, or of obedience unto righteousness?" And just what is sin? 1 John 3:4 King James Version 4 "Whosoever committeth sin transgresseth also the law: for sin is the transgression of the law."

Thank you for a little honesty. That church missed out on the wealth and diversity of the common man. People taught me more than I ever got out of sermons or classes in the college. Thanks for the plusses.

Thanks for being real. My good story. HWA's the WT probably challenged me to be who I am now. When he asked the world to blow the dust off my Bible. So I did, and I re-read it again and again. And I always did before that and kept on with it since. So thats postive. Great to be able to come to the pole barn, Sir!

I forgot to include that I never heard church leadership or a minister clearly tell me what I was allowed to do on the sabbath besides breathe, eat, sleep, read the Bible and go to church. I was being told it was wrong to read my car and train magazines on the sabbath.

Mr. Flurry follows and obeys all the scriptures, as did Mr. HWA. Other "ministers" play pick and choose with the scriptures, not accepting and teaching the whole truth.
