I totally understand what your feeling. 2010 my mom passed away in Taiwan and I was in Canada. Until now I still dream her so often and wish to see her again badly.

Thank you Nathan for sharing your stories and sorry to hear that you couldn't be by your father's side when he passed away. As a man of faith, I do believe that we will see our loved ones after this life on earth. That faith gives me hope. I share your delivery room experience. I recall the first time being with my wife in the preparation room. A nurse came by with several needles. One of them was going into my wife's back for spinal anesthesia. I was stunned by how thick the needle was. The thickness of the needle literally scared the heck out of me. I later admitted to my wife that I wouldn't be brave enough to take that shot. Since then I had a great deal of respect for my wife when remembering what she went through for birth-giving. To honor her suffering and perseverance, I even made her a promise. I promised her that going forward whenever we are in a disagreement of anything she can bring this up and use it as a token, and I will let her win. 17 years passed. She never remembered to use it when we had a disagreement. I never reminded her to use it when we had a disagreement. I remind her of the promise when we are not in a disagreement. Is that so unkind of me? 🤣

I'd like to quote a sentence I learned from a church: "Any success cannot compensate the failure of a family." It is our responsibility to do our best to play our roles in the family while time is passing.

You are a genuine human being, expressing those feelings is hard (like sipping that coffee). My sincere respect to you, bless your beautiful family. I am working on starting new life but my fear of being away from loved ones making me hasitant. I need a strong stomach like yours to make such life decision. Listening to you made me realize a few things that I need to address in my life. Thanks Nathan

You selected two most serious topics in life, birth and death. One is the beginning and the other is the ending. From the viewpoint of the buddhism, no one actually die. They continue to live, but in another form. You might feel better if you think that way. Cheers.
