Agreed. Center console switches and shifter are not ideal. Spilling a drink on the shifter can short out gear position module which will cause shifting problems. Very annoying.

Same issue on my w163 ML, unfortunately they stopped using buttons but instead used pressure sensors. Ended up buying a used unit and probably will have ago at making a repair for the existing faulty one.
