Window wont roll up? Learn how to replace a window regulator motor in your car. Replacing the window motor is less expensive than replacing the entire window regulator assembly. Replacing the window motor can fix a window that is stuck down, or doesn't roll down at all. Also if your window is getting stuck or is slow to go up and down, or it is making a grinding or whining noise, this video will show you how to repair it.

@@LRM12o8 I dunno. I don't really find power windows to be any more convenient than winders. They would be if you like to have all of your windows down, I suppose, but if you're driving an estate (or station wagon as yankees would call them) having all your windows down creates a horrible pressure thing due to the cavern in the back in every car I have driven, so I don't like it.

Tip: When you gonna cut a bolt to size, take one or two nuts and put them all the way up on your bolt before sawing the remainder off. Then when you're done cutting, you remove these temporary nuts again and that will straighten out any part of the thread that got damaged while sawing, so your final nut will go on smooth.

Before cutting a bolt, screw a nut all the way in. Once you're done cutting, remove the nut, so it will remodel the f-ed up threads. Then you're sure to be able to screw this bolt without problem.

Protip for anyone with a B6 A4 with window issues. At 04:22 Chris shows the plastic covered wires going to the door. On the B6 the wires like to crack at that specific place. That is most likely the reason your windows dont work. I have soldered countless door looms at that exact place, works like a charm every time. If you have checked those wires and they look fine, its most likely the window switch who is the culprit. Hope this helps!

Another great video. I had the same problem with my old Chevy Beauville van. It looked identical to your motor. I had no drill or replacement motor, so I chiselled the rivets off and took apart the motor. The brushes were good but there was dirt and corrosion, so I cleaned everything and scraped out the grooves of the armature with a broken utility knife blade. After finding nuts and bolts and putting it all back together, and trying it, I was surprised by fast it moved. Better than the passenger side. I'm fairly certain that you could've fixed your motor too🙂

It's so fun how I can watch a guy walk through replacing a window motor in a car door for 20 minutes and I only wish it was longer; it's the most perfectly entertaining thing for me. Not only that though, your unique positive energy and your genuine enthusiasm is so contagious it brings me such joy for every single second. You've helped me so much with the work I've performed on my own cars (my first car was a real mess when I got it) and given me a great deal of confidence to do pretty much anything mechanical. I will literally never ever get tired of you, please never stop making videos Chris!

Another good tip is to get an inexpensive circuit tester (they sell inexpensive testers that "light up" when you complete a circuit) and use it to test for power at the fuse box as well. You hook the clamp end up to any metal part of the car that can be a ground, and then press the other end against each side of the fuse. Even if you know the fuse is good, that doesn't mean power is going to the fuse. Also make sure when you do this that the key is in the "on" position. If you see your test light "light up" then you know at the very least you have power going to and from the fuse box.
