Window Switch Cleaning and Repair, 1994 Mercedes C280 W202

This is my first official KZbin video of my efforts to keep my car in good shape. I am the second owner of this 1994 Mercedes Benz C280. I never worked on cars before but consider myself handy. One of the justifications in buying this car was that I was going to do the work myself. One of my first projects was figuring out why the window switches in the center console were sticking and difficult to press and use. I couldn't find any videos on KZbin about my exact issue and ultimately my specific console design.

Are these buttons location specific or can you use any switch in any spot?

Each of the 4 window switches have to go back the way they came. The two front ones have the one-touch roll down whereas the rear are for each side. The clips and connectors also force orient you to the slots…hope this helps.

@@fixittony ok how do you get the wood piece off? I know you have to jimmy out the plastic piece around the shifter but are there any additional screws/fasteners keeping it down? I have a parts 1995 C280 for my 1994 C280 and I can use the passenger side front switch from the 1995 on my 1994 given they look identical

After removing the plastic ring around the shifter…gently grab the front edge and lift…no screws…no clips….the plastic will be brittle…wiring harness ought to be enough so you flip over enough to pull out switch connectors…the switch connectors are on by friction…gently pull…support the wood and switches themselves….a light touch

@@fixittony In retrospect this was about the same as changing a bad window switch on my W201. I traded my bad '94 C280 passenger side front window switch for the same one out of my parts '95 C280 and it's all back together and works perfect. I did have to put a little daub of superglue on the body of the switch where the clip broke off a little bit of the tab while removing the original switch but it's all back together, looks normal and works great.
